Why have my federal student loans been deferred without my request?
I am not currently taking out any other student loans, I am not in default, and I did not request deferment or forbearance...but my account is now showing as in deferred status and no payment due until 2015. Why? And are they doing this to other accounts too?
Well...I am not experiencing hardship. I have a steady job and money with which to pay more than the minimum required payment.
I suppose the returning to school thing could have something to do with it. I graduated almost 10 years ago, but I returned to (a different) school recently to get my Masters. But still - I've taken many courses over the past 10 years from different colleges and it has never affected my student loans before. I thought previous loans weren't affected as long as you aren't taking out loans to pay for your current courses.
Well, either way, I'll call somebody about it tomorrow. I just thought I might get some insight into it first. Thanks! :)

Loans automatically go into in school deferment if you are at least half time. If your previous courses have not put you at half time or more, that's why you've never had the in school deferment kick in until now.

I have 2 questions for you. Have you already graduated from college? What year does the financial aid office have on record as your graduation year?
Let me guess. you went to another college this year to get additional courses you can transfer to the college you are going to.
This happened to me. The financial aid office had a different year on file for me graduating. I went to college about 10 years earlier, got my associates, went back to a university to get my bachelors degree. The computer at financial aid either automatically puts in 4 years for every new person in the college, or some silly person enters the information.
All you need to do is contact the college and let them know what is going on. They may give you another number to call to correct the information.
Good luck with your loan and your career!
... I'm just sayin'!

Called your lender. Only thing I can think of is they applied a hardship to it.
