If this life is all there is and if our species will eventually die out, then what is the point of morality?
If in the end, all our lives and societies will cease to exist and will not even be a memory in this or any other world, what justification is there for not doing whatever the heck we want? The choice to donate to the poor or steal from them will not have any lasting effect. In the end, it is all the same.
(Note: I do not believe this, and I also am not attempting to poke fun at anyone's beliefs or non-beliefs. It is just a question that i have heard asked that I would like some honest answers to.)

6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoWhat do people mean when they classify themselves as "spiritual but not religious"?
Simply that they believe in God but nothing else?
Or not necessarily that they believe in God, but that they are not closed to the idea?
Or that they have a soulful side and hesitate to classify themselves as atheist or agnostic?
What do they mean?
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoWho gets the girl at the end of the movie This Means War?
I know it's un-American, but I really don't want to see the movie. I'm just curious to know who wins their guy tug of war. ;)
3 AnswersMovies9 years agoIs there a term for one who is obsessed with collecting books but who does not read most of the books he owns?
Bibliophile implies both reader and collector, but I know someone who is obsessed with the feeling of buying new books but never gets around to reading about 99% of the books he buys. Can he be truly termed a bibliophile?
4 AnswersBooks & Authors9 years agoMoral Dilemma - If you were the parents of conjoined twins and had to make the following decision..?
Doctors have informed you that one twin will not survive surgical separation. However, you have also been advised that neither of your children will have normal, healthy lives if left conjoined (both medically and emotionally). Do you have them separated, knowing that one twin will in all probability die but the other will have a chance at a normal life, or do you leave them conjoined?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoThree times a bridesmaid, never a bride...and seven times, you break the curse?
Yes, I know - superstitions aren't real. :) But I'm curious, particularly as I am about to be a bridesmaid for the 7th time. Is this the way the superstition goes?
3 AnswersWeddings10 years agoWhy have my federal student loans been deferred without my request?
I am not currently taking out any other student loans, I am not in default, and I did not request deferment or forbearance...but my account is now showing as in deferred status and no payment due until 2015. Why? And are they doing this to other accounts too?

Is there a specific calculation I should use based on my expenses or do people just arbitrarily come up with a number that sounds good?

I am looking for a popular-type read, not for psychologists or specialists. Also, not overtly politically biased.
Thank you!
3 AnswersMedia & Journalism10 years agoIf a majority of citizens voted to legalize murder, would the government be right or wrong in doing so?
They are elected representatives of the people. Should they legalize it because the people have spoken? If so, is majority vote ever "wrong"? And if not, when is it acceptable to overrule the majority and when is it not?

I am asking this under Religion & Spirituality because of the morality factor.

7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoIs it ok to plan a girls' night, but exclude my lesbian friend's partner (read details)?
In the past, my friends and I have enjoyed girls' night as a chance to not only be girly (chat, chick flick, etc.), but to catch up with each other without the distraction of boyfriends and husbands. I like to hear how they are doing in their lives and in their relationships without the censoring that comes along with mixed company. I'd really like to catch up with this friend without her partner along for the same reasons, but since it's technically "girls' night," I'm afraid leaving her out might be construed as disapproving of their relationship rather than what it is - a night without partners/spouses.
Any advice/suggestions?
