Want to take some online classes, need info?

I want to look into taking some classes online. I am interested in medical billing and coding or physicians assistant. When I look online they want me to fill out a form so they can call me. I really don't want to be harassed by them yet, I am just curious how much it costs, how long it takes, and what kinds of classes I would be taking. So if anyone has done this, or knows a way I can look into it with out having someone call me it would be great.

I would suggest staying away from any "school" that does not list their tuition or program information right on their website. If they don't list that information its because they are VERY expensive and they want to get sell you on their program before they tell you how much it is.

I would suggest your local community college, they are inexpensive, most offer online classes and their credits are transferable, should you decide to further your education.

If you are interested in an online only program, I would suggest CareerStep. They have a great program and a very indepth curriculum. They list all of that information on their website and it is under $3,000.

Personally, I would suggest Coding over being a Medical Assistant ( I assume that is what you meant instead of a PA.) Based on pay alone, Coding is better than being a MA.

Medical Assistants are paid very low

On average, most MAs make between $10-15, I have rarely heard of an MA making more than $16 and that is usually with years of experience.

Most entry level coders (who have 1-2 years of coding experience) start out around $12-15 an hour, once you gain more experience, the pay goes up to around $16-20 an hour and increases with more experience and credentials, to around $21-30

But there is a huge difference in the actual job descriptions. MAs are interacting with patients all day long, they assist the physician with procedures, draw blood, call in perscriptions, etc. If you are a people person, this is definitely a better fit for you.

Coding, on the other day, is the opposite, we hardly ever interact with people. We usually sit and code charts, all day long. Its not for everyone.

So decide which is a better fit for you and go from there. Either way, stay away from the private for profit "career colleges"
