Cancer support group?

My long term girlfriend's father is about to under go radiation therapy for a month, over this years Christmas. Needless to say these next couple months will be terrible. He is a really great guy.

My girlfriend is becoming steadily more depressed about it, and she is one who is always upbeat always positive. Is there support groups out there, maybe on the Internet and in person.

I can only tell her I will be there for her no matter what.

Any advice or experiences?

I am in the position that I am starting radiation. frankly, I don't want people moping about and treating me differently. I am the same person I was before I got cancer, I just have some issues, like I am tired and food tastes bad.

As bad as the treatments are, they beat the alternative. So you need to get your girlfriend to be supporting of her dad in ways that help him. For her, check with the hospital and ask for a social worker, they all have them. The social worker can probably lead her to a group for family of cancer patients.

I started my radiation treatment on my daughter's 16th birthday.

She turned 23 this week and I have attached a piece she wrote last week when I was told by my oncologist I no longer need to continue seeing them.

I think it may help you understand some of the feelings a child of a cancer patient needs to deal with.
