Shotgun slug opinions?
after hunting all of my life with a remington model 700 7mm Rem Mag, I am hunting in ohio and am being forced to use a shotgun. I have never used a shotgun for deer, and dont know what to buy. any opinions on slug brands/types that favor velocity and good trajectory ? I have used remington core-lokt shells all of my life. A great load, that i can throw a box of 20 shells into a 5" circle at 100 yards without no change...in other words consistency. looking for same in a slug load. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've only ever done deer with a shotgun, and I usually use Remington brand 12ga slugs. They are fairly straight and accurate, but like the guy above said, definately get in some trigger time before you hunt.

Shotgun slugs have come a long way, and I believe you can expect 2 MOA out of a good rifled barrel with good ammo, although max range is about 200 yds, and that's pushing it. Major manufacturers will list energy, velocity, bullet weight, etc to give you an idea of how hard their product hits. Spend some trigger time, try out different loads, see what works best before you head into the field. Don't expect a flat flight though like your 7mm, you gotta lob a slug in there at longer distances.

I live in south western Pennsylvania and have been hunting deer with a shotgun for over 25 years.I like Remington shotguns and slugs best. Shotguns are no different then rifles you first pick the brand you like. Next the type of siting system you want: open, red dot,or scopes. Last you need try different brands of slugs or sabots that shoot best out of your gun. Rifled slugs are for smooth bore shotguns and sabot slugs are for rifled barrels.

depends are you using a shotgun with a slug barrel or just a modified or improved cylinder. I usually always go with remington or federal for slugs. I use a benelli supernova.
