How long does police clearance go back and how to we obtain it? Is it possible to see it before immigration does just to make sure he didn't do anything boneheaded years ago that would prevent approval of his greencard.

the procedures vary from country to country. if he's in the US, they'll take his prints and run that. it will go back to as long as he's been here, but you won't be able to see it.
