Can after school activities keep teen girls from becoming sexually active?

Alarmingly, teens are becoming more sexually active creatures than ever before and even at an earlier age, sometimes as young as 11 or 12. The whole baby bulge phenomenon from the media only made matters worse.

This is a lot more prominent for girls that are being raised in single parent households where the parent is occupied with 2 or even 3 jobs just to provide for her possibly only child and a stable roof over their heads, than in a household with both parents. The main compliant from these single parents (usually mother) is that they don't have enough time for their child due to school and/or 2 jobs.

Do you believe that if the teen girls are in these after school clubs or activities, this can prevent them from being sexually active at an early age? Too many teen girls nowadays always have these raging hormones and the peer pressure of losing their sacred virginity.

What can parent(s) also do to ensure that they can abstain their teen daughter(s) from becoming sexually active too soon? This is other than talking to them about sex, placing them in birth control, insisting on protection, the consequences, STDs and careful family planning.

Update:

These after school activities can be those that are held at the community centres or private institutions, such as dance or ballet schools.

The number of pregnant teens is actually going down. I don't think it's as much more teens are having sex but simply the internet is shoving it in our faces more. All these girls that think they are pregnant on yahoo once of a day would have kept it within their friendship group. Then if it was a false alarm we'd never hear about it.

Now onto your question. After school activities don't last very long, even if you take part in lots, most finish by six o'clock and almost all of them are the perfect place to meet teenager boys. Which means more girls finding boyfriends and having sex. Sex education classes could be better, girls should have at least a couple of sex ed classes away from the boys in order to discuss their emotional needs without embarrassment, the same for the boys as well, because their's just as much pressure, if not more on boys to get laid. Really it's all about the education, you can never stop people having sex if they want to but you can make them realise they don't want to.

    I dont really think so.

The baby thing is just the media blowing it out of proportion. The teen pregnancy rates are a lot lower than they were 20 or so years ago.

And btw, im in a single parent family and my mum worked her butt off in university to become a teacher and provide the best living she could for me, and raising a child didnt make it easier. So please, dont stereotype single parents like that.

no. i play volleyball, soccer, and softball and am still sexually active with my fiance. yes there is the risk of pregnancy but we are always careful and i am on birth control. there is no risk of stds because we've only been with each other but still, we are carefull. telling girls not to have sex because their "virginity is sacred" or blah blah is stupid. they are more likely to do it. how about providing them with condoms and birth control for when they are ready to be sexually active. as long as they are being safe and with someone they love and care about, i dont see a problem with it

I mean I didn't lose my virginity at a young age, but after school clubs and sports didn't stop me from having sex and it's not going to stop someone else.
