I soaked chick peas (garbanzo beans) overnight, yet when I cooked them they were STILL hard...?

You don't say how long you cooked them, but garbanzos are large and dense and take a fairly long time to cook even after soaking.
If you cooked them for at least 1 1/2 hrs and they were still hard after soaking "overnight," check out some of the other factors that could be at play in my answer to this previous question:

Did you under cook them? Or did you add salt at the beginning? Because cooking beans in salted water makes them harder.
