Schooling in Britain?

Can someone please explain to me in layman's terms how the British schooling curriculum works?

For example: In the U.S. you are required by law to attend school from 5 or 6 until you are 18. When you're in High School (9th-12th grade) you have to take English, Math, and Science. You can also choose other extra-curricular classes.

Sorry if something is worded weird. My eyes are goin' cross eyed because I'm so tired. >.<

Thanks in advance!

OK, this might sound confusing, but bear with me:

Some kids go to something called Playgroup for one year from ages 2-3, they then move onto Nursery at age 3/4, which is the first stage of Primary School. The primary school ages and years go as follows:

    Nursery - 3/4

    Reception - 4/5

    Year 1 - 5/6

    Year 2 - 6/7

    Year 3 - 7/8

    Year 4 - 8/9

    Year 5 - 9/10

    Year 6 - 10/11

Nursery to Year 3 are classed as the Infants and Years 4-6 are classed as the Juniors. Some primary schools have separate Infant and Junior Schools, but some do not. :)

After Primary School, at age 11, you go onto Secondary School, in which you take your GSCEs, generally during the last 2 years. The years and ages go as follows:

    Year 7 - 11/12

    Year 8 - 12/13

    Year 9 - 13/14

    Year 10 - 14/15

    Year 11 - 15/16

    SIXTH FORM:

    Year 12 - 16/17

    Year 13 -17/18

Towards the end of Year 9, you make your GSCE course choices. The compulsory courses nationwide are English, Maths & Science, and other compulsory courses vary from school to school (eg, specialist sports schools or religious schools may have to do PE and RE).

After Year 11 (at 16) it is no longer compulsory to stay in education, but most people do. A lot of schools have sixth forms, so students have the choice to stay in their school for two extra years, but rules are more relaxed on uniform etc, as Sixth formers generally have privileges that the rest of the school do not have , or, if a student's school does not have a sixth form (like mine :) ), or they just want a change, they can just go to a sixth form college that is a separate building that has tutors as opposed to teachers and students generally wear their own clothes and some are part time, depending on the course they are taking (A Level, Apprentiship, BTEC Diploma, etc).

After college/sixth form, there is the option of University. The time taken at Uni largely depends on the course you are taking , eg Medicine degrees can sometimes span 5 years.

Wooow. Sorry about the length of this answer, but I hope I helped! :D

Wow. i'm stunned that every person seems nevertheless publicly praying in faculties in Britain. They chucked it out really a lengthy time period in the past contained in the U. S. and the best situations are rolling! (Sarcasm) about prayer. i trust it is a private remember and as such, could be achieved everywhere, anytime, contained in the sanctity of our recommendations. So the perception of banning it is amazingly ludicrous extremely. i will understand your aspect about any style of mandatory public prayer, nonetheless. it may be something we do of our personal loose will. I undergo in recommendations having to assert the pledge of allegiance to the U. S. flag even as i became in college, which today as an human being i could probable protest. I style of doubt that they are even doing that anymore. i guess i have been round lengthy adequate to work out the downward spiral of the U. S.. it is sinking ever decrease right into a pit of rottenness, specifically because of the actual incontrovertible truth that the customary public college platforms began education evolution rather of creationism. once they were given God out of the picture, they slid added down into the muck by introducing the theory that it became the duty of the coaching device to coach childrens all about sex. So on the ripe previous age of 5, condoms were being handed round. First graders were being advised to attempt with gay relationships. Textbooks and libraries had books that proclaimed that it became only as prevalent to have 2 mommies or 2 daddies as the different parental relationship. instructors are searching any opposite direction as youthful seventh and eighth graders are having sexual sex contained in the lecture room. for sure, it is also the duty of the school device to provide assistance to the more youthful "women folk" who grow to be pregnant by sending them off to "relatives planning" centers to kill the undesirable new child it really is growing to be of their wombs. they have a warped experience of nice judgment. the students can not take an aspirin without the written consent of their mom and father, yet they could have an abortion without their mom and father' awareness or consent. on account that God would not extremely exist, in accordance to many contained in the academic platforms today, it is really a lot a loose for all. Do what feels good. attempt with drugs. eat, drink and be merry, for tommorow you'll die and which will be that. definite... enable the best situations roll.
