  • Japanese Translation. . .?

And please don't insult my intelligence and tell me to go to Google Translate. That doesn't work, I know for a fact. Basically, in a story I'm writing, there is an island in which the locals believe dragons live. I want to give it a Japanese name that means something along the lines of 'land belonging to the dragons' or 'dragon's island'. I don't understand enough about the Japanese language to know exactly how the grammar and such works, so I'll leave it to you to give me as close a translation as you can. If what you give me is a variant of what I want, that's fine. I just want authenticity. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my question and a special thank you to those who answer it.

  • Sclera or the whites of our eyes. . . .?

This may be a silly question but is the fact that the sclera is white affect sight in any way? I asked my mom this question and she responded that although she didn't know she did remind me that the color white reflects light, so I wondered if that had anything to do with our sight? The specific questions I want answered are these:

Does the white help our sight, and if so how?

If it does affect our sight, then what would happen if our sclera was black instead? Would we see things differently?

Thank you for taking the time to read and answer my questions.

  • Native/Fluent Japanese speakers?

I want to know if the word Yanaba sounds like anything in Japanese or if it's just nonsense. Even if it's something obscure or doesn't even make sense. Just curious. . . Thanks!

  • Styles for long hair?

I've got seriously long hair, like nearly past my hips long hair. I want to know some creative styles to pull my hair back or up whenever I need it out of the way and also some elegant looks when I need to get all gussied up.

My hair is a bit thin and I reckon my face is round...ish. If that helps any. Thanks in advance.

Oh and I also like the Victorian era and absolutely love the styles influenced by the era. So bonus points for anyone who introduces me to a Victorian look.

  • Japanese Words for Water Lily and Lotus?

I need the Japanese word for Water Lily and Lotus. If they are the same word that's fine. Also if there are Japanese names that mean Water Lily and Lotus (different from the actual words of course) please include them. I appreciate the time you take to read and answer my question. Thanks!

  • Nicknames for Amaranthia?

Well just as it says above I need inventive nicknames for a girl named Amaranthia. And please don't give me Amy, I've already got that one. I need more than one because her mom gives her one cute nickname and the insane villain she works for calls her another.

P.S. She works for the Joker, if that helps...or sets a challenge. Another thing, she loves flowers and their meanings, almost to the point of obsession. Thanks!

  • InuYasha's Father: Inu no Taisho?

In the anime and manga they say that Inu no Taisho (Inuyasha's and Seshomaru's father) ruled the lands to the west. When they say this, do they mean the western lands of Japan, or are they refering to the mainland (Korea, China, ect.)? Thanks in advance!

  • Schooling in Britain?

Can someone please explain to me in layman's terms how the British schooling curriculum works?

For example: In the U.S. you are required by law to attend school from 5 or 6 until you are 18. When you're in High School (9th-12th grade) you have to take English, Math, and Science. You can also choose other extra-curricular classes.

Sorry if something is worded weird. My eyes are goin' cross eyed because I'm so tired. >.<

    Thanks in advance!

  • Sherlock Holmes' Opinion of Women?

In the original Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, it is stated that Sherlock has a low opinion of women. He holds little to no interest for them if they are not clients or subjects of his investigations. However, I haven't found any reason to Holmes' opinion of women, besides of course Irena Adler, one of the few people who have been able to outwit Sherlock. (and if you think about it, she's almost like a female Sherlock Holmes; intelligent, quick, wondrous actress....etc.)

I have formed my own thoughts on the matter but I wish to widen my horizon by hearing others theories and evidence they present to support them. Thank you to those who share your opinions.

  • Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) Manga Chapter 58...?

There's a panel of Sebastian and Ciel right after Lizzy asks if Ciel hates her. Ciel says something like, "I could never.." trails off, turns redder than a tomato, then says "We don't have time blah blah blah..." I was just wondering what in the world Sebastian was doing in the background. He was holding a hand to his mouth and his eyes were wide like he was surprised or something. Did Ciel do something to him or what? I can't tell. Thanks to whoever can answer this!!!!!

By the way, Kuroshitsuji or Black Butler Manga can be read right here http://www.mangareader.net/

I believe they also have it on mangafox.com

  • Achieving Wavy Hair....?

First off my hair is naturally wavy. I believe the term for it would be 'gentle waves'. I like to keep my hair long and it just looks better wavy than straight. However when I brush my hair in the morning it straightens my hair out. Not brushing my hair is out of the question, tho that 'just got out of bed' look for hair seems to be the new thing. Anyway my hair becomes impossible to manage if I don't brush it at least once a day and going out in public with unbrushed hair makes me feel like a slob. So any advice as to how to keep my hair wavy or make it wavy-preferably without curling irons- I would very much appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

  • Gankotsuou: Albert De Morcerf's Real Father.....? Spoiler Alert!?

This is more of a poll than a question, I just want to see what other people think. Now the two possible candidates are:

    Fernando De Morcerf

The Count of Monte Cristo/ Edmond Dantes

The first thing I noticed about Albert was his blue eyes. (A/N: Personally I thought they were absolutely gorgeous) I wondered where he got his eyes from. Fernando has brown eyes and Mercedes appears to have deep green eyes (still not sure) so I thought 'Okay, recessive genes for the eyes.' Then here comes Edmond Dantes in a flashback who's eyes are also a bright shade of blue. First thing I thought was, "Hey his eyes look a lot like.......wait a minute." XS

So evidence Numberr 1: Edmond and Albert have same blue eyes

Also the time fits, if just barely. Please don't crucify me if I get this wrong but Edmond was put in jail sixteen years prior to the series. Albert is fifteen going on sixteen in the series. Now I know this could mean little, but I doubt that Mercedes would marry Fernando so quickly, never mind have a child. Please remember I am doing this purely out ofcuriosityy so please don't be like 'You idiot of course the count's his father' or something to that effect. Thank you.

    So.....what do ya think?

  • Can anyone translate English to Japanese?

I need help naming one of my character's weapon. Her weapon looks something like a spear and battle axe combined. On one side the axe blade resembles a dragon wing, the other looks like fire. The 'wing' controls wind and the 'fire' controls....well....fire. =_= '

The spear head controls water/ice. I want to call the weapon 'Dragon Staff' (It reverts to something like a wizard's staff when not being used) and because the one who raised and gave her the weapon was Japanese, I want the name to be in Japanese. Unfortunately I only know snatches of words and phrases. If you could translate 'Dragon Staff' I would appreciate it. I know sometimes there isn't an exact translation for some things so don't worry too much of being precise. I'm open to any other suggestions, both English and Japanese. Also I can't read katakana or kanji so if you do type in either one, have pity on me and also type it out in the english alphabet so I can read it. : P

    Thank you!
