Well if they haven't been trying to contact you than what is their problem?
Just say that people grow apart when these things happen. Also say that you can't talk to them or see them that often because of distance or other commitments and that if they organised something to do than you would go. Trust me I have been in this situation before and sometimes people do just drift away, it is part of life.
