Will the US will become energy independent due to fracking?

Oil wells exhausted for 20 years are now producing gobs of oil again. Land owners are becoming millionaires overnight. In North Dakota you can get a job in the oil industry if you just show up. Drill baby, drill seems to really be how the US will regain energy independence.

They could. There's way more oil available in this country than we are willing to go get. At some point, the economics are going to trump the aesthetics. Until then, and as long as politicians can keep getting elected with these self-righteous, expensive, and short-sighted feel good policies, nothing is going to change.

Give Obama a chance.... He'll kill that hope just like he did the pipeline from Canada.

If the man is hoping to choke the oil industry to death so some innovator will come up with a truly competitive alternative energy source, he's going to have to lay off making "profit" a dirty word.

Liberals are making it so difficult for small businesses and entrepeneurs to start new businesses with "tax the rich" and "give to the poor".... No one wants to take a risk on a business idea that could launch a whole new direction on energy production and consumption.

Even if it were to succeed, what is the reward? People don't put themselves at serious financial risk just to get a warm fuzzy feeling if the venture succeeds.

Not as long as liberals are in charge. Environmentalist are already making a stink about fracking gas and oil wells.

    Nope.

It's FAR more likely that a casing will fail, poison the Ogallala Aquifer, and leave 30 million Americans without drinking water...

Oil Crusades will never stop. I heard rumors in mass media that Syria is next :)

No, but according to people who live in fracking areas, you can depend on fire shooting from your water faucet.

Much of it is very difficult to get at, buried under deep layers of rock.

Once they completely pollute the aquifer we are doomed . Imagine pumping toxic water on farm fields and killing all the crops ..
