maybe the manifold gasket is leaking or the manifold is warped. lots of white smoke out the tailpipe makes me believe it,s a head gasket. transmission slipping could be a clogged transmission filter.

smoke on the manifold, could mean an oil leak. Oil to be leaking from the valve cover gasket.
white smoke from tailpipe, could mean a blown head gasket. Or a leaking one.

Oil is burning off the shield. Never spray a hot engine w/cold water ( any water really) you can cause a hot part to crack. like a manifold, etc. Let the car cool off, put it ALL back together, spray the engine bay w/engine cleaner & rinse it ALL off. Then let it sit & dry out thoroughly. Try not to run water in the: alternator, carb/intake, or the wiring boxes.
