What's the difference?

When some one saves a baby from a burning building, and later in a news interview they say that God told them what they had to do... Christians say "you see...God really does intervene", but when somebody kills his family, rapes his mothers dead body and eats his fathers spleen... then later says he did it because God told him to... Christians say he was crazy? I mean... It's not like there is no precedent in the bible for God to tell people to do some truly heinous things... In fact, given the track record set in the bible, the second guy has a better chance of being right...

Update:

@Zach...Nowhere in the bible does it say to be wicked? God told Abraham to kill his own son... God wiped out cities full of people... There are passages that say if your own child tries to change religions, you should bring to the center of town and stone them until dead! Hell, God allegedly wiped out EVRYONE ON THE FREAKING PLANET except for one buoyant zookeeper and his family!

Seriously dude.. read your own mythology.

There are some crazy people in the world today and for every religion there will be someone who says that when they are doing something evil they are doing it for the good of there religion. And before you say that the second one is more likely to be right then actually read and pay attention to the bible. No where in it does it say to be wicked like that. God does not want us to murder people as seen in the ten commandments. Everyone struggles with sin if everyone in the bible was perfect than we would have nothing to relate to in there. So yes maybe some evil things do occur in the bible but it is for us to learn not to do them.

Even as an atheist, I can tell you that in the example you gave there is an obvious difference.

But in less extreme cases, they use the excuse that "evil comes disguised," and that a true christian would be able to tell the difference between what is caused by god, and what is caused by Satan.
