Seniors, Desert Island Discs?
Desert Island Discs started in 1942 as an idea devised and presented by the late Roy Plomley.
Guests would be invited to choose 8 records to take to an imaginary desert island and then
select just one, to keep to while the time away.
It's a broadcast that I have listened to many times, and often wondered which discs
I would select.
So here goes:-
Music, Music, Music, Teresa Brewer, from the 1950's.
Calon Lan, sung by Bryn Terfel.
Sleepers Awake, from cantata 140 J S Bach.
Highland Cathedral, Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.
The Fields of Athenry, Mary Duff.
My Girl, Otis Redding.
Wind Beneath My Wings, Bette Midler.
Bring Him Home, from Les Miserables.
And if I could keep only one, as they say on the show, it would be Sleepers Awake, J S Bach.
Of course the only problem with a list like this, is that a month later we could have a completely
different idea of our favourites.
Did any of my fellow Seniors listen to this programme, and if so, what music would you take to your warm and balmy desert island.?
If you google Desert Island Discs, you can listen to some past broadcasts at your leisure.
Kirsty Young is the current presenter of D I D,
this week the guest is actor Robert Hardy.
It is on BBC Radio 4 at 11.15am Sundays
the repeat at 9.am Fridays.

I remember struggling to tune into the Light Radio Station on a Sunday afternoon, just after 'The Navy Lark', to listen to this programme. For some reason we kept losing the signal.
My Dad enjoyed listening to it, so I had to.
As to my choices, you've got me testing my memory, but I think these would be my selection;
Ken Colyer Trad Jazz Band - 'Bouron Street Parade'
Acker Bilk Trad Jazz Band - 'That's My Home'
Nat King Cole - 'Mona Lisa'
Rick Nelson - 'Garden Party'
Adam Faith - 'The time has come'
Mantovani & His Orchestra - 'Song From The Moulin Rouge'
Paul Anka - 'Diana'
Sousa's Band - 'The Blue Danube'
Of course as you said, my choice kept changing as I wrote it!
