It's really too late to start on a Thanksgiving dinner, as it requires some preparation. Also, we don't watch what we call soccer and you call football, many people watch American football.

Basically, a Thanksgiving dinner will vary according to each family's tastes and traditions. Many people prepare a large turkey with dressing as the meat course, and this is very good. Some people prefer a ham, which is also good. And some people like roast beef. Then there are the vegetarians/vegans.

I will be having turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, and corn. This meal really contains too many carbohydrates already, so I will skip the yeast rolls and butter and honey. Other traditional dishes include mac'n'cheese, sweet potatoes, and various salads.

In many families, a relish tray is traditional. Some only put out black and green olives and some sweet baby gherkin pickles. Others put out more stuff. For instance, I usually put out a lot of cut up raw vegetables and garnishes like radish roses, and dips like ranch and onion.

Then there are desserts. Pumpkin and apple pie are favorites, because those are in season right now. We've always had blueberry pie as well, because my dad loves blueberries. Most people don't do cakes very much on Thanksgiving.

Most families have some favorites that are not thought of as Thanksgiving foods by most people, yet to those families, it's traditional to serve those foods. For instance, two of my grandparents emigrated from Sicily, so my family frequently has lasagna as a part of the meal. Most families don't regard lasagna as a traditional TDay dish, but my family does, and possibly other Italian families do.

A great many Americans simply eat themselves into a stupor and then watch American football. This is the most basic tradition, so if you can manage that, you're good to go. I don't watch sports, so I go off and play a video game.

Oh, and it's traditional to have leftovers for about a week afterwards, too. My family always has a lot of turkey sandwiches, and I always make turkey soup out of the carcass.

One of the women I know is originally from Manchester, and she is absolutely crazy about Thanksgiving. She even watches American football on this day. The Thanksgiving football always has new and interesting commercials, and a fantastic half time show.

    Southerns also include:

Pecan Pie Yum (variation include adding rum or other liquours)

    Carrots (with brown sugar)

    Rice or Corn Bread Dressing

    Giblet Gravy

  • What ever you do don't forget the Cranberry Salad. Not only is it tasty but it adds color to the party. You will have to buy it at this point in the game. Hope your Day is Great. P.S. One of the Most Important things to remember is to give thanks for what you have.
