Which is the best center channel speaker for this price?

I'm getting a Denon receiver, and want a great (but affordable) center channel speaker for movies and music. I've narrowed it down to:

Cerwin Vega! VE-5C Center Channel Speaker

or

JBL Studio 120c Dual 4-Inch Center Channel Loudspeaker

I've found both at $100. Both have good reviews. Which is the best center, and why? If you've got a better option for around $100, please explain why it's better than the above. Thanks!

Update:

To flesh out what it's going with, I found a great deal on a refurbed Denon 2112CI receiver so I can finally go all HDMI. I have 2 nice Bose 201 bookshelf speakers, 2 ancient Panasonic Thrusters, and I might wire in my 2 ancient ProA model 202 speakers. I'm planning on eventually upgrading the ancient speakers when I can afford to put some money into it, but in the meantime, they'll do- and are better than some of the cheap theater box sets I've seen.

So, that said, what specific detail(s) makes the one center better quality than the other?

The best center channel is the one that matches your other speakers most closely tonally....so if your other speakers are cerwin vega then the Cerwin Vega is going to match the tonal quality the best and if your other speakers are JBL them the JBL would be the best choice....

JBL is a much better speaker than the Cerwin Vega. The JBL will provide you a cleaner sound and they have been in the speaker business for a very long time. Most recording studios, movie theater and professional use JBL speakers. I have used JBL speakers as early as 1978 and still use them today. Hope this will help you out.

well.... this is a bit of a strange question to focus just on the center.

For music - the center is not involved unless your receiver does DSP tricks to send some sounds to the center (something most music lovers do not like). The center is also Mono - so you cannot judge the center on how well it images because you dont have another speaker for it to interact with.

For home theater - the best center is the one that matches the Left & Right speakers. This matching is more important than slipping in a higher-end center to a system with budget speakers.

So my answer is this: The best center is the one where you can more quickly find the matching left/right speakers to go with it.

(Not the exact answer you wanted - but I hope it helps.)
