What would you be most interested in?

I know a lot of you guys are either on a college equestrian team, have been, or want to be. So, most of you know how important fund raising is. We're trying to come up with some new ideas instead of the same old, not horse related, stuff.

We've done all the candy sales and that sort of thing. All the stuff that's directed towards non-horsepeople. But, since we are an equestrian team, we figured a horse related fund raiser would get two birds with one stone; raise some money and get horse people in the area to realize that we exist.

What kind of things would you buy or attend if you knew the proceeds were going to an equestrian team? Painted horseshoes? Homemade treats? Tack swaps? What would catch your eye?

At the college that I went to, we always held a silent auction each year. We call around to various tack shops and other local shops to get donations and then donate a portion of the proceeds to an equine rescue or therapeutic riding facility. The items that we get include some horse related things and other non horse related items so we can attract both types of groups. I graduated last year, but since I'm local, I still tried to help some this year. Our auction is held during the first week or two of December so some people could potentially get Christmas shopping done at our auction... It's held in the main building on campus.

Ha. Just getting into that with my Drill Team & Pony Club. Bake sales here we come! (:

Anyway, with Christmas coming up perhaps some themed items? Horse themed, homemade Christmas tree decorations, treats in red and green, and painted horse shoes are a wonderful idea! If you have some really good artists you could let people pick what they want on the hoof- a lot of people would want something with their horses' names and such. I'd personally love those for gifts for people with horses!

Another idea, perhaps you guys can get together any old tack/gear that's in good shape and sell it off? That can make some money.

Photos can also get some income, if you have any really good horse paintings/photography that someone on your team did, get some cheap matting that looks nice, put them a bags and sell them. I made over over 50$ selling just a couple pictures like this. It's easy and even nonhorsey people might like some art in there house.

    Good Luck and Happy Riding.

I personally love tack swaps. That would bring me in.

    Some other ideas:

    -Horse wash

-Craft sales (like jewelry or painted horseshoes)

-Maybe a horse kids summer camp if you have the horses and facility? I don't know what insurance stuff would be involved, but it's an idea and a lot of times parents will really pay for that stuff.

-Around Christmas you could bake horse cookies decorated like Christmas cookies, or cookies for humans decorated with horses

-If you guys are really artistic, you could paint people's tack for money

Why not hold a silent tack auction? Our team has made bank with that fund raiser. Because no offense, my younger family members can paint horseshoes, so I wouldn't pay for that. I make my horses homemade treats however, I would keep that idea in mind because many people don't have time to make them.

We don't make a lot with non horsey people when it comes to fund raisers. But when we hold the auctions, people make an effort to come.

I would definitely buy a painted horseshoe, a homemade stuffed pony (if it was cute), a tack swap or homemade treats but, to be honest anything horse related would catch my eye.

Tack Swaps are always fun! You guys could do a clinc...like in your arena! You could pass out fliers and such and have an entry fee. You could do one on bits, saddle fitting, ect.!
