    Write the roots as factors that will be zero for the given value:

    (x + 2)

    x

    (x - 1)

    Multiply them out:

    (x + 2)(x - 1) = x^2 + x - 2

    x(x^2 + x - 2) = x^3 + x^2 - 2x

    Set that equal to y:

    y = x^3 + x^2 - 2x

    x(x + 2)(x - 1) = 0

    x(x^2 + x - 2) = 0

    x^3 + x^2 - 2x = 0
