Landlord vs Tenant ... is this Legal ?

I have a question. Is it wrong/against the law that a landlord did not notify the tenant of any repairs being done to the house ? I was woken up this morning at 7am by roofers stomping and hammering on my roof. The landlord did not notify me that there will be roofers. Also the driveway has been blocked by the roofers personal vehicle. As I sit here I am being sprinkled on by the ceiling stucco which I am hoping does not contain Asbestos. I just wanna know if my Landlord having roof work done without notifying me is legal.

The landlord should have notified you of this. While legally this is exterior work and he doesn't need permission to enter your unit, it would be fully expected that this would cause a major disturbance for you; especially at 7am. The loss of the use of your driveway is an issue if you are unable to leave you place or find alternate parking.

This is more of a 'Come on, Mr Landlord, would it have killed you to pick up the phone and let me know?' rather than a legal issue.

Yes, it is legal. Your landlord is NOT required to notify you of any repair work planned other than that which is INSIDE of your living space. While it is a common courtesy to notify tenants of such exterior work/repairs, it is not required that your landlord do so.

Now, to your other complaints. If you need to leave the driveway, you only need to yell at the roofer to move his vehicle, and I'd guess that he will do so. Relative to the 'ceiling stucco', would anything be different, had you been notified in advance ?

The landlord does not have to notify you about work done outside your apartment. You dont own the building, you rent space from him. You can ask the roofer to move his truck so you can get by. You are being overly dramatic about the situation. Dont sit there, or put a tarp down on the floor to catch the material as it flakes away. That is something the landlord can fix later.

    You are a nut case.

Legally, the landlord does NOT have to inform you of work being done on the outside of the house. He should have out of courtesy, but no, what he's done is not illegal.

And quite frankly -- he probably didn't know himself when the guys would show up. I have several rentals myself and there's been times when I've asked the contractors to call me when they plan on starting work (so I can notify my tenants) and what they'll do instead is just show up unannounced.

It would have been nice if the land lord had notified you but, he was not obligated to do so.

You should be glad that you are getting a new roof. How you can ask him to redo the ceiling because of the falling stucco.

Since they do not need to come inside the house there is no reason to notify you. T

As long as they are not entering the home or shutting off utilities, there is no LEGAL requirement. It would be a courtesy at best.

You are WAY too over entitled. Nothing illegal here.
