I'm uncomfortable around gay people. Why might that be?

No idea. But it's wrong. I used to be a little uncomfortable with lesbians back when I used to be a naive, close-minded 12 year old. There's no need to be uncomfortable with homosexuals. They're people, just like you and I. And for what it's worth, I doubt they'd be hitting on you or thinking of you in a sexual way. Why would a gay guy try it with a straight guy? That'd be like me flinging myself at a gay man. Pointless.

You were taught or learned to be uncomfortable. A homophobic parent could do that, or homophobic friends. If you allow it to, that will pass and you will find yourself very comfortable around them.
