Paddock boots... Field boots... Help?

I bought a pair of paddock boots about a year ago. They're falling apart already (since I bought a pretty low quality pair). Now I'm on the hunt for boots... again. I'm debating between paddock boots or field boots. I do plan on starting to show IHSA huntseat, so tall boots will be required. But, I really don't have the money for them right now. I'm torn between buying a cheap pair of paddock boots now and just using my half chaps (even though I can't show in them) or just waiting and buying a pair of field boots.

What boots do you have / have you had? What do you recommend? Should I go for another pair of paddock boots (better quality than the last ones, of course)? Or wait and try to find some tall boots?

I've been using my paddock boots for all of my riding lately, since my ropers just went after 2 years of me beating on them. I'd love to get the field boots, but I don't know how well they would hold up to all of my riding as well as the few shows I make it to a year. Also, has anyone ever worn tall boots riding western? I know it's a silly question, but I've never heard of it being done, and am curious how comfortable it would be until I could get another pair of ropers (if I go with tall boots).

Update:

What brands do you guys recommend for boots in general?

I mean, my paddock boots will hold up for a little while longer. But, I know they aren't going to finish out this school year. I bought Dublin paddock boots, and I regret it now. I just want to get a range of price vs quality for english boots (since I've been a western rider for most of my life).

I know the tall boots would look a bit weird riding western, but I didn't know if they would rub or anything like that because of the different leg position.

I'd wait and get tall boots. That way you only spend the money once.

For schooling I have the Tuff Rider Baroque's ($179) . At one point I was riding 9 horses a day plus barn chores in them and they have held up. I wasn't expecting them to last since I haven't had good luck with other tuff rider products. They are pretty comfortable, I just wish the sole was thicker/sturdier. They felt broken in after about 2hrs which is awesome.

For show I have the Mountain Horse supreme field boots ($450) Great quality, super comfortable. I think they blow Ariat Monaco's away for a heck of a lot less. I stopped wearing my ridiculously expensive customs because these were so much more comfortable.

You can check eBay and consignment at tack stores for a good deal on used boots also. I would get something at least 1/2 decent quality though. Plan on buying boots that are at least $150 new. The Tuff Riders are the only decent quality boot Ive seen for under $200.

Depends on how soon you'll be needing the tall boots. If you'll need them in the next couple months, just get them now.

As far as western, I've ridden western in my cheap rubber tall boots and it was fine. I'd assume a nicer pair would be even better, haha.

tall boots are really meant for showing and due to their price i would personally never were them just to do lessons in because they get scratched and worn out so i just wear mine in shows. If you can't afford both you can get tall boots for showing and like plastic work boots for riding if used them and the work great for spending the day at the barn. Of course you can ride western in tall boots it would just look odd.

    Ariat Ariat Ariat.

Voguls are also really nice tall boots....with a HUGE price tag. If you don't plan on riding hunters forever and are just doing it for IHSA, then look at Ariats.
