How do you handle depression?

I don't feel like existing and alcohol isn't helping anymore. Keeping busy used to keep my mind of myself but now I'm sick of doing anything. I just want some ideas that may help. Talking to people around me does not work.

Alcohol never work for depression. Depression could be easily tackled with natural practices. The following ideas would give you a permanent remedy to your depression.

Below are 4 natural methods you can use to help overcome depression:

    a) Meditation is proven to improve mood and reduce depression, and is also not difficult to learn. 15 minutes a day is all that is required to help calm your mind and start to bring about positive changes

    b) Herbal Remedies: There are a wide variety of herbal therapies that people can use. For depression, St. Johns wort and ginkgo biloba are the most popular for altering mood. You can Google results to see what comes up. Web MD is a good and reliable source where you can start

    c) Exercise: Research on anxiety &; depression shows that the psychological and physical benefits of exercise can also help reduce anxiety and depression while improving mood. 30 to 40 minutes of exercise 3 to 4 times a week is all that is needed.

    d) Program your mind so your subconscious (or conscious) thoughts to become more positive. There are a number of self help programs that can help you do this: The best one I know of is at the link below.

Depression means to feel gloomy and unhappy. Having said that, clinical depression means that most of these thoughts of sadness, emptiness, anger will affect your daily lifestyle for an extended time frame. There are plenty of reasons for depression, this includes though not restricted by, drug abuse, sleeping problems, stressful occurrences which include the loss of someone that you were very fond of or perhaps the breakdown of a marriage. Depressed people typically have an increasingly negative view on living, battle to focus, come to feel hopeless, possess feelings of death or suicide, to name just a few. Basically there's two main kinds of treatment plans for a depressive disorder, medications and counseling or a combination of each. I know individuals who are clinically depressed and in fact got even worse on prescription medication but some improved. You must consult your personal doctor and then choose a course of treatment that suits you.

Start by staying away from alcohol.Alcohol stops you confronting the problem and ends up making the depression worse in the long term, you need to figure out the cause or trigger, you need to set small attainable goals, you need to change the way you think, look for the positive and don't dwell on negative.

I found this book useful 'THE GENIE WITHIN YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND -HOW IT WORKS AND HOW TO USE IT'

Also keeping a diary helps make sense of things when you read it back or just helps get things out instead of bottling feelings up. It takes a long time and sometimes ongoing for life to learn how to deal with negative feelings if you are prone to depression. Remember you are in control and in time you can make it better. I know you said talking to people doesn't help but finding people to hang out with and do normal stuff with without having to talk about or worry about problems helps. To much time alone is too much time for your mind to drive itself crazy and blow thing up out of proportion..If you must spend a bit of time alone make the most of it. Make it 'Me' time .. have a long bath, read ,watch a movie take up a learning a new language or art/drawing do things that make you feel good and worthwhile and happy. Make a nice meal(healthyish is good for your mental health ,eating crap can affect moods). Give yourself a makeover , treat yourself to new clothing or hair style ..

I know it's not easy but if you want and believe it can and will get better. Take care of yourself and value yourself -give yourself confidence to make things better.

I have had struggles over the years ..it won't be all plain sailing but it gets easier and you will learn to deal with stress better and learn to recognise signs of depression creeping on so you can nip it in the bud or prevent it esculating out of control before its to late.
