So do you still think that Cotto is damaged goods?
That is the argument that surfaced after he was defeated by Margaputo. That he wasnt the same anymore, that he was done. Especially on how he narrowly escaped a decision win against Clottey, and how Pacquiao battered him for 12 rounds.
But seeing him last night, I thought "Oh wow this is not the same Cotto Pacquiao beat!". And if he was boxing like that, lighter on his feet, displaying more finesse, I think it would have been a tougher fight for Pacquiao. I really think that Cotto reinvented himself. After seeing how he performed last night, I think we havent seen the best of Cotto. Cotto can very much still dominate top competition. I hope to see him fight again soon. But more importantly someone should welcome him back to the P4P rankings.
BQ: How much of Cottos improvement do you give to his new trainer? Did he finally find the perfect trainer he should stick with?

Cotto is shot. He can't beat Mayweather, he can't beat Pacquiao and he can't beat Martinez who are in the top. If cotto was still at welterweight he could not beat Marquez. Cotto beat a Margarito who was shot as well. No props for that win. He didn't school Margarito, because he just got in his bike an ran. When you want to see a true display of what boxing is about, watch Marquez fight, that's skills. Cotto just got good stamina to run around the ring.

Considering the opponent (Margacheato) is 1-3 since being caught, you can't assume that Cotto isn't damaged goods by defeating an inferior opponent. Margarito's only win since his suspension was against a no name. Good win by Cotto and nice to see him get his revenge, but he's not the same fighter he once was. Even then he never took his career too seriously (changing trainers, partying too much, etc).

I think Cotto is the same great fighter he has always been, I think Margarito is the one whose skill has drop or may never been that good in the first place (considering he might have been using the plaster for a long time). 38 wins 27 by KO? please, after that beating by Cotto is impossible to believe the same guy got so many wins by KO.
Mayweather hasn't even broke 27 yet, he's like one victory away.

Yup. This is a guy who barely won against Clottey ( some even thought Clottey won), a guy who the ROIDED pacquiao beat up ONE-SIDEDLY a guy who was getting outclassed by handicapped Yuri Foreman prior to him getting his KNEE hurt. LOL. Now he beats up a WAR TORN HANDICAPPED TONY Margarito, who was beaten BAD by Shane and then had his license suspended so he COULDNT even train for a while, then he gets beat up by the ROIDED Pacquiao as well and had an operation on his eye making him IDLE again for quite sometime. I gotta give props to COTTO though. He's good with beating up HANDICAPPED men.

I don't think Cotto was shot, he still had something left to take on the big names. I just think he needed the right trainer to be in his corner and he did

Not at all. HE's changed styles and still utilizes his fast hands and strong punching, but in a better defensive mode.
