When did politicians start running the NHL?

What the hell is up with this realignment? It looks sofa king retarded.

Four conferences...two that consist of 7 teams, the other two consist of 8. This looks like something our politicians would come with. All this because of Winnipeg: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=ycn-10612719 Thoughts?

It's not much different to how things were before 1994. There were 4 divisions. It worked out great. This will work out fine as well.

EDIT: I can see how the younger generation wouldn't understand this. But as an older fan I embrace this. I was never happy about the post-1994 way. I miss the Norris, Smythe, Patrick, and Adams. As well as the Clarence Campbell and the Prince of Wales.

They have to call them conferences because that's what they are. Divisions lay within conferences, and in this case, teams will only play other teams in the same conference in the first two rounds of the playoffs until a conference champion is claimed. This way is much better for the tv watching fan, in my opinion. Each team will get to see every team at least twice in a season, compared to now, which sees some teams not matching up against another team all season.

I easily have ben noticing this besides, yet positioned all of it the way down to bandwagoners having no know-how of the NHL. a million) I see the Devils changing long earlier Kovalchuk learns to diminish back verify. John MacLean grew to become into offensive in his play so possibly there'll be a metamorphosis yet Lou remains in charge. 2) The nice could be everywhere between a million and 5 million money and draft possibilities. i will confirm the nice being in the back of schedule till the top of the Kovalchuk settlement and being a unfashionable energetic cap hit of the fee of circumventioned utilized with interest. 3) Brayden Schenn 4) Any RFA that has been offered a settlement could be nicely recommended to take it, except he has an supply distant places. 5) Modano does not be attentive to whilst to offer up. BA* Voted against crimson Kelly whilst he ran in my driving.

I think it is a fantastic idea except for the fact that the western teams got bitchslapped by having two 8 team conferences while the east only has 7 in theirs, meaning it will be easier for teams in the east to make playoffs

Besides that, I love it. It does make many travel woes easier

  • The WC teams wanted to ease their travel burden. The EC teams liked things the way they were. This was your compromise (the FL teams get a boat-ton of home dates against big-market NE division teams larded with snowbird fans).

Conf 1 is the old Patrick Division with Carolina tacked on. Nice simple travel schedule, with two more Ovechkin/Crosby games (if only they'd mention this on occasion).

Conf 3 is the old Norris Division minus Toronto with a couple expansion teams tacked on. Nice simple travel schedule. Detroit gets a slight easement on travel and Dallas gets out of the Pacific Division.

Conf 4 is the old Smythe Division with a couple extra California teams and Phoenix tacked on. Only one time zone differential.

Conf 2 is the current NE Division with Florida tacked on.

Intra-conf. playoffs the first two rounds (or what you had up until 1993).

Not that it matters but the Board of Governors (the owners) approved it by a 26-4 margin. So clearly the people vested in the game like it. Fans who remember the game pre-1994 will like it.

It should be fine, but calling them Conferences is starting to confuse me. Why not divisions..

I'm really not up for too much change but since we're all big hockey fans and can't really do anything about this change, mind as well adjust accordingly and continue to support our favorite sport.

Not that much of a difference for the Bruins. We get Florida and TB in our division. As long as we have Montreal to hate, we're ok.

Looks good to me (and it is not just because of Winnipeg).
