In today's world, most people will need some post-high school/post-secondary study or training to help them follow an occupation they enjoy and from which they will earn a decent wage. Such post-secondary education can include training in a skilled trade or a specialized skill.

Examples: mechanic, electrician, plumber, lock smith, beautician/barber, shoe repair, chef, etc.

Often courses of study for such training can be obtained for a reasonable cost (and offer eligibility for Federally funded financial aid) through a local community college.

If you have been told "you need to go to college," the speaker may really have meant that for meaningful life-long work for pay most people need some education/training beyond high school, now. Some people use the word "college" to mean some sort of higher education or specialized training as well as more traditional college and university studies and degrees

If you consider some post-secondary education/training, consider jobs/work that will not be sent out of the USA. Consider jobs/services that require customers to come to you or your place of employment (examples: auto repair, hair stylist, cabinet making/carpentry, clothing alternations/tailoring, etc.) or for the service/skill provider to come to the customer (examples: plumber, electrician, interior decorator, etc.)

Often community colleges provide a service to help prospective students learn where their occupational skills and interests lie. If you need help in figuring that out, I recommend you contact your local community college (telephone the main phone number) and ask about such a service. Often they do not charge for such advising.

If you eventually consider following some post-secondary occupational training, please be careful about where you choose to attend classes. Please do not be swayed by the often misleading advertising of for-profit/career/proprietary schools or online-only programs. Some of those schools/programs are fine; some are not. Generally they will cost way more than a community college program and they may only provide loans for financial aid - loans that can carry high interest rates and prove difficult to pay off.

    Best wishes

Not a whole lot. Minimum wage hard labor or fast food or maybe certification classed but if you want to make a good living go to collage. People with degrees make 40 to 60 percent more every year then those without a degree. I know my job inside and out but without a degree for a job I've been doing for 12 years means no degree no great pay or respect. Get the degree

Restaurants, retail stores, basically any jobs that people usually don't want to do. There are some people who end up highly successful without college but they are the exception, not the rule.

The working world and military service. There are still pretty good jobs in sectors that train you as you go so you don't have to pay for any education. If you are good at numbers you can consider banking and other financial service jobs that offer paid training. if you are not into that thing you can try restaurants, retail stores and ups/fexex

Source(s): i have done most of them (except restaurant)

Not a lot! But there's apprenticeships now, so you can learn as you earn. You will gain an NVQ out of it which is better than nothing. This can be in retail, fashion, and restaurants (learn to be a chef or something!)
