I want to know this because I am studying criminal justice
Legal issue involving a college or just a simple complaint?
I consulted a college advisor who used my buisness background to my disadvantage and made me the so called "adminstrative glitch"
By that, I mean that because of by skills and expirence, I had to follow a different admissions procedure and would definitely have to pay all my tuition out of pocket. In addition, she attempted to deter me from personally interacting with the financial aid office, by telling me that it is "unprofessional (to apply for financial aid)" and providing me with student's negative comments about the office including:
1) financial aid is the worst office of all (name of college)
2) financial aid staff is mean and rude
and further implying that I had much to lose. Well, anyways I got upset over this whole thing cause come on, she basically insulted her employer and I started telling other college staff about this and even filed a formal letter of complaint against this advisor.
The thing is I can't even make sense of this mess now and I was hoping one of you would have websites or names of lawyers to contact in the case this is discrimination.
I want to know because I do not know if I have to take it to the state level (I live in Illinois) or not and I am also concerned that my two page letter is not that specific. Well, anyways the last incident/meeting occured April 24
(now, I have to make you aware that there were incidents, but I really was not going to put a confidential letter on this forum)
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics8 years agoDo the hormones estrogen and testosterone have something to do with gayness?
I have recently heard a lot of commercials for guys with "low T"
Then I started wondering if gay guys are lacking it or something. Or if this is a completely different issue.
I mean I was told that is was the balance of the hormones estrogen and testosterone that caused gayness. So now what I really have to ask is if any gay people undergo "hormone replacement therapy". I mean for reasons other than sexual preference.
And does it change sexual preference. Or is it something deeper.
Honestly, I don't mean to offend or anything. I am just curious about this whole issue. I am proud of being a lesbian
3 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender8 years agoWhy do students procrastinate on term papers?
I am talking about when the professor assigns the paper early in the semester, sometimes even the first week. He allows the students to turn in the papers as soon as they are done. Yet it seems like no student gets it done until it is close to the due date, when there are so many other assignments to do and so many finals to complete...
I think the reason has nothing to do with "time management". Most students just set up blocks up time around finals to take care of this work...
Rather I think it is a question on "knowing what the class encompasses" and the fact that the paper can't possibly be done until late in the class, as that is the only way the student will know what to cover in the class, but this is never mentioned. Therefore the argument becomes pointless
2 AnswersTeaching8 years agoCan a company have different vacation policies based on date of hire?
Before you go on saying something like, "but you need a year on the job to get vacation time" I mean something more specific, like the fact that employees hired on or before May 1 get two weeks vacation while those hired after May 1 get only one week off
They are all full-time employees and they have all worked over a year. Is this unfair?
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoAny instances where a the current president of the time...?
goes up for reelection and gets eliminated in the primaries.
I don't think they ever do, and that makes the primary election for that particular party of the current election a given
2 AnswersElections9 years agoHow does the electoral college work?
Please don't say something like "you need a good gpa to get in. I know this is not a real educational institution. Ha, I was just trying to be funny
What I want to know is how much my vote is worth when I vote for president. Is it really worth anything or is it all decided by congress or some other body of politicians called the "electoral college"
If it is decided by government, what then is the purpose of putting the president on the ballot?

2 AnswersOther - Science9 years agoWould you define college as work or leisure?
I have a class where we are supposed to define things as work or leisure and I was wondering where college would fit.
Here is my opinion though:
College is leisure because you have to work to pay for college and you attend college on your spare time (known as leisure) when you are not working
There is also the fact that college is not a requirement, but a personal choice, which tends to put it more on the liesure side
Agree? Disagree? other opinions
1 AnswerWords & Wordplay9 years agoMotivation as the only element to college success (discuss)?
From what I have heard, the only thing a student needs to go to college is MOTIVATION
But if that is so, what is the purpose of financial aid? (include loans)
shouldn't motivation work in a way that students are able by the pure force of motivation (both intrinsic and extrinsic) be able to acquire funds and front their own educational costs
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)9 years agoFriend that you have just met starts talking about a boyfriend...?
and that sweetest day is coming up. But you don't know how to respond or continue the conversation because you are homosexual
I want to know how normally gay/lesbian people deal with these encounters, when people they have just met start talking about romantic relationships, children or things of that nature, which don't apply to you because you are homosexual
Before you go on saying that gay couples could "have" kids, let me mention that I do not want to have kids. All I want is what I have, a girlfriend
4 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender9 years agoMotivation in college: why don't they ever mention those that cannot afford it?
Every year it is the same thing. There are community wide efforts to get students to go to college. Colleges offer their own breed of "commit to completion"
Every college mentions that students need motivation and maybe academic support (esp for harder classes)
While I do admit that as true, they don't cover the whole picture
There is a study done by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation that plainly states that
"70% of first semester college drop outs cite financial reasons for dropping out".
That means that you take 100 students that dropped out of college after thier first semester, and 70 of them will drop out simply because they could not afford it
So in some part they are telling you to be interested in college, but even if you are intested if you cannot pay the school itself will drop you out. yet nobody mentions this, they just say it is a "national problem" if you press for answers
What I think is they do need to adress "paying for college" whenever they mention stuff like this, even though they NEVER do
Maybe they are better off saying nothing at all. Or offering to meet halfway, such as is evidenced by saying something like this, "the ONLY reason to abandon/drop out of college is when the student can no longer afford it"
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)9 years agoDiscussion on labeling of people: homosexuals and ADHD?
I know that homosexuality is something that you are born with and develop in adolescence. There is not supposed to be a pill/cure for it. It is something that you are supposed to embrace, it is pure love. I am lesbian and do NOT want to change it.
Forums say the same thing regarding attention deficit disorder, that it is a natural born trait and that we should not label it or cure it. There are "cures" for adhd, for which the most common are ritalin and adderall
They temporarily suppress your mind so that you "think right" but don't work forever, just when you take them. In that sense they are like glasses, once you go off glasses you see blurry again
The problem now lies that I am lesbian and strongly suspect having ADHD. I don't really know if I should just "live with it" or go to mental health clinic and get diagnois/meds
I mean, after all aren't the two things just "labeling of people", I mean homosexuality sure is. ADHD, I don't know about, all it does is distract me, make me impulsive and have me drop the same old class at a community college
5 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender9 years agoAge related memory/concentration problem or ADHD?
I started going to community college 13 years AFTER I graduated high school. At first cc was okay, but quickly the "thrill" went away esp. when I couldn't understand half what they were talking about. I preferred going to work than to class and for that was "chronically absent" (over 6x a semester). I made myself study a bit cause after all I paid for the courses. I got A's and B's (but I had to drop a class)
dropped class was composition 101, and I took it again next term and dropped it. Then I decided to give the class a break
now I am taking class again and find I can't put pen to paper to express my ideas. when the teacher speaks I think of random events, skewering off to TV shows or stuff I did with the family
sometimes I think it is because I started school "too late" (maybe I should be working instead, after all I am hard worker) and my brain is not spongy anymore
Other times I suspect ADHD because while I was never diagnosed, I can't remember things like the fact that my mom was expecting when I was in 1st grade, that I fidget a lot with necklaces because I belive that is what they are for and the fact that my brother does have a confirmed diagnois
But since I am hard worker and a "neat freak" (very organized) I could also think that this is just age-related mental breakdown of sorts
Can someone please clarify. I'd hate to go to the mental health clinic looking all stupid and people think I am just inventing diseases
1 AnswerMental Health9 years agoAre there natural cures for attention deficit disorder?
Home remedies, homeopathic medicine, vitamins/minerals. Anything that you can get at a health food or vitamin specialty store to lessen the effects of adhd in adults?
This is for someone who suspects having the disorder (and has relatives that definitely have adhd) but does not have insurance to cover the cost of diagnostics and treatment
3 AnswersAlternative Medicine9 years agoCan organized adults have attention deficit disorder?
Organized at both home and work. With the following other issues
1 Had trouble paying attention in school since the lower grades
2 finding it hard to read unless interesting or easy
3 bad at remembering names
4 putting mental tasks off in favor of physcial tasks such as household chores
5 random words, esp at meetings or group converations cause person to remember something else, such as TV show episode
6 although active in housework, randomly switching from chore to chore, but most do get done by end of day
7 difficulty initiating anything requiring deep thought
8 chatty and very interruptive of other peoples conversations
I was just wondering if anyone displaying these signs could be have add, despite the fact that they seem neat, clean and tidy
2 AnswersMental Health9 years agoWhat is an appropriate way to say "too old to work"?
I am trying to write something regarding working age and retirement. Since the article first mentions "people of working age have too much time on thier hands", I am trying to say the article is too broad, because it mentions retired people, who are too old to work. But I don't know how to say "too old to work" without becoming offensive or repeating the word "retired"
3 AnswersEtiquette9 years agoIs Puerto Rico part of the United States?
I heard they use US currency, and they don't have immigration issues, like other countries do. Then why isn't Puerto Rico a star on the US flag making it an official "state"
What does that make Puerto Rico
I just recently saw a quarter (25c) that had "Puerto Rico" that got me thinking
6 AnswersPuerto Rico9 years agoDoes anybody know how President Obama paid for college?
I really want to know if he paid out of pocket on his own or had his family help
Or won an academic scholarship
I also want to know if he used financial aid (grants/loans)
Cause I figure that if president Obama was able to pay for school, esp "out of pocket" that that means that I can do that too, even if it takes me forever
5 AnswersGovernment9 years agoHow does the Ouidepus complex explain gay people?
Only asking this because someone had mentioned Freud's theory. If women tend to go with men who resemble thier fathers, then how come some women just prefer women
And how come some men prefer men. Where does modern psychology point this out?
3 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender9 years agoDo I have some form of learning difficulty?
I don't think it is too serious (mind you) because there are things I can do very well. But when it comes to writing essays, I have to write them single spaced, and once I know I am done, only then can I format them according to instructor's specifications
With that said, I can't start writing a essay double spaced. It just won't click
Oh, and also if I have to solve a math equation such as:
x= 4y+ 19x
I actually have to write it out as 4y+19x=x before I can solve it. I just can't solve it backwards. it confuses me and I give up unless I flip it over
have you ever had to do that, or am I just being quirky?
