But are they unique to each FINGER? (is the right thumb identical to the left thumb, ect) I wanted to do a report on fingerprints for a investigations class

Yes, unique to each finger. The prints on each of your fingers is different. Although the placement of some features such as whorls may be similar, there are many differences.

I imagine they will be "opposite hand" - or should I say opposite thumb, i.e. mirror image.
