    You "could"...

If you plan on playing a hybrid style (which, btw, every goaltender is now playing- your pure butterfly goaltenders are having to learn that they can't just automatically go down on every shot; be it a two-pad stack, one-knee down, etc) the style of pad you choose is down to what you want.

Flat-faced pads (i.e. pads without knee rolls) tend to be great for goaltenders who use the butterfly as a wide majority. Examples at the NHL level would be Jonas Gustavsson (his pads have no break in them and are flat-faced), Pekka Rinne (he's also 6'5") and Henrik Lundqvist.

Pads with more break and with knee rolls are for goaltenders who tend to stay on their feet more and play a true hybrid style. Martin Brodeur (while he's using Sherwood pads, they're effectively the same Heaton pads he's worn since the early 1990's but with new foams and Sherwood skins on them), Tim Thomas, Ryan Miller (wearing very traditional pads but with new Reebok skins on them), and, Evgeni Nabokov (who has a very narrow basic stance with little or no five-hole).

So if you plan on playing a hybrid style, I'd avoid the flat-faced pads with no break, and look for a pad with knee rolls that has a break to it. If you can, try pads on in the store, and bring your pants and goalie skates with you to make sure everything fits the way it's supposed to. Pads aren't cheap so you want to make sure that money you spend isn't on something that doesn't fit properly.
