Do US presidents age faster than everyone else?

Do they get older faster because of the stress or do we just notice it more

    Yes.

I would say it's mostly due to the stress of the job. That guy has his life planned out for him right down to the second. Even then, those seconds can be reallocated. He probably sleeps less than the average American, and he has less time to genuinely smile.

The fact that they are watched all the time, I don't think it has much significance.

If nothing else, just look at people who average 4 to 8 years in a high stress job. They age quickly as well.

It is fairly common in nature with social animals. The leaders do age faster and stress literally speeds up the aging process. There are lots of examples of this in nature but the best example is the gorilla and the leader being so identifiable by his silver back (and it is interesting to note that the silver backs often lose their distinct coloring when they lose their leadership role if they remain alive).

I don't doubt that presidents age faster than the average person.... leadership is stressful and being the leader of leaders has a stress level that is only known by the few men who achieved that status.

It's the stress of the job taking a visible toll on your body. It was really obvious watching Clinton over the years. Both Bushes looked old before hand so there wasn't much to notice. If Obama didn't dye his hair, then he must have some serious stress just look at the pre/post pictures. I was too young to remember Ronald Reagan.

Do a little research and you will find more than you bargained for with your question. If you were to put yourself in the President's shoes for a day you would be so over whelmed with all that you had to deal with in a days time that you would probably turn gray over night. The President deals with domestic one minute, economic the next, military the next, political following, then more every day items then back to sensitive issues with other countries. It is a "thankless" job we elected him/her into. He gets criticized, complemented, degraded, slammed, and accused of not heading our country in the right direction. His speeches are critiqued by writers and reporters who only want news not answers. So, yes the President does age. Wouldn't you?

Source(s): Magazine articles, newspapers, televison viewing of speeches, books, and anything in print in the library.

Their hair grays noticeably in 4-8 years but they tend to live forever. Probably because they all end up rich and pampered, don't have to work for a living after out of office and have the best medical care the taxpayers can buy. Also, they have security and don't have to drive themselves anywhere, so tend to not get involved in road rage on the freeways.

yes Presidents age faster than most others, and yes we notice it because it happens right before our eyes. and yes, it comes from the stress inherent in the job. I notice our current "leader" isn't aging as fast as most Presidents..

The start to look older faster but they actually live longer. Reason? They have some of the best healthcare available, and they all exercise. z

It is all the radiation they absorb from the frequent high altitude flights in Air Force One, and the frequent meetings with the radioactive space Aliens at Area 51. That is what ages them so fast.

I think it has to do with both. They have so much going on they age faster and you notice the gray hairs on their head more.

I'm quite sure they do. Take a look at Bill Clinton that mans skin is about to fall of his face. It won't be long before George W. Bush looks like a unwrapped mummy.
