How do Scout and Jem learn more outside of school than they do in school?

Quotes would also be nice. Please and thanks.

I'm writing a page long paper on this, and I just started reading the book. Help.

Update:

Well, yes. I'm a freshman. I just got switched into that class and they're 5 chapters ahead of me.. I'm not reading 5 chapters tonight, although I'm trying to catch up. I'm just asking for help. Be a tad more helpful, thanks.

You should already know what Scout has learned outside school.

Keep reading and you will see many things they learn.

If you are reading To Kill a Mockingbird, you are old enough to get this done within a few days! It is usually taught in high school. Don't be lazy! What if your teacher asks, "Explain what you mean," and all you did was use our ideas?

Sure, answers with quotes are nice, but you will learn more doing it yourself.
