Questions about Pemphigous Foliacious?
I have a 7 year old Cavalier who was diagnosed with Pemphigous Foliacious. ITs been pretty bad, he has lost almost all his fur. Has been on three different steroid regimens, and no on an immuno suppresant. Was wondering if anyone else out there has had a dog with Pemphigous? Any advise? Any experience with the disease? thanks in advance.
@ ladystang No offense, but that wasn't really a helpful reply. Take him to a vet? We are at the vet every other week with him. I have spent almost $10,000 on him with this condition already. He has had biopsies, tests, more tests, retests, multiple rounds of drugs, etc. I was asking for advise from people who may have had a dog with this condition, and for their experience. Did you really think that I self diagnosed Pemphigous Foliacious?
@ Julie D. Thanks, I think we caught it earlier than that. So far nothing in his mouth. And after loosing weight (he was also diagnosed with a type of irritable bowel) he has actually gained some weight back and his protein levels have started rising. But yes, I am sort of (unfortunately) preparing for the worst.

I haven't had one with this, but I know of one. It was a young Doberman. They ended up euthanizing the dog when it's paw pads basically almost fell off and the feet were constantly bleeding, and there were so many sores in it's mouth that it couldn't eat anymore and was wasting away to nothing. In all honestly, I don't think your dog is going to end up in a good situation, even with treatment, so be prepared.
Add: Just to let you know that this was probably about 25 years ago or so, so the treatment/treatments that your dog is getting may be more advanced. I hope things go well for your dog.
