2012 theories proved wrong? I heard that there is a new translation of the Mayan long count calendar!?

Okay so here is a little more info on this... There is tons of ridiculous theories about the world ending in 2012; but if you think about it, just about all of them can be proved wrong! For one yes there is the Mayans Long Count Calendar, and yes it comes to a halt on Dec. 21st 2012; but here is the thing the Mayans were never predicting anything AT ALL! All they were doing was creating a calendar. Now I have thought about it and came to conclusion that "A. They could not foretell the future & B. They were crazy blood thirsty savages that worshiped 100's of gods!" They never had any knowledge except the self learned generational stuff.

People have been falling for lies is what I say! And the movie 2012 is a complete hoax! Also think about this too. If the Mayans were so freaking smart, how come they got wiped out by Cortez? They could have very well just stopped working on the calendar when they all were killed! I have heard of recent studies that this Mayan expert professor dude has re-translated the Long Count Calendar, and found that is WRONG! It is said now that it is not the end, but... when one of their gods is supposed to return!?!?!?!?

there is no translation needed, as the calender doesn't say anything, any more than the calender on your wall says anything.......the Mayans had an Unnecessarily Complex calender, which measured several different things ( solar year, new moon to new moon ) and kept track of all of them, and periodically resets itself.

Think of it this way: Your car odometer keeps track of many different things. How many miles, how many tens of miles, how many hundreds....how many thousands...etc etc .

It periodically resets each counter......00009 becomes 00010, 00099 becomes 00100 . The Mayan calender is about to "roll over" to all zeros and start again, that's all; just as an old odometer that only measured up to 99,999 miles would reset to 00,000...........

You're pretty much 99% correct. I would not agree that they were savages, savages do not make large buildings, run farms or invent writing and mathematics. But they didn't predict doom or disaster for 2012 or whenever either. They left that to crazies and frauds of our own time.

The entire 2012 thing exists to make money from the gullible. Everything the prophets say is false

EDIT The Maya were roughly the American equivalent of the Sumerians or early Babylonians.

You are right. 2012 is simply the end of one Mayan period, another starts then.

Who cares. The people that made that Calendar used to chop off someone's head and play soccer with it. In modern society we wouldn't view them as prophets, THEY'D BE LOCKED IN A PADDED ROOM.
