Riki Chōshū (tho he named the hold Sasori-gatame) invented the hold in the late 70s in Japan.
Rugged Ronnie Garvin used the hold att the 1990 Royal Rubmle in WWF against Greg Valentine, naming it "The Hammer Jammer" I believe

The Rock and Owen Hart was the masters of the Sharp Shooter imo.Owen ifcourse mastered the submission and passed it to Brett and The Rock had the most electric way of performing his Sharpshooter and he mastered it also.I used to laugh when Steve Austin tried to do it to the Rock because Steve was one of the worst submission wrestlers of all time but he made up for it on the mic I guess.
