Ideas for sending care packages to soldiers?
I just adopted a soldier :) I'm really excited and I kind of have an idea of what to send him. But it's almost Christmas and I'd like to send him something involving some holiday spirit! Any ideas? Plus, how frequently should I send care packages and write letters?

Cookies, banana breads, stuff like that. You send stuff as often as you like. Those men and women deserve EVERY BIT of mail/packages that they get and THEN some.

Breads will go bad....and cookies may too. I wouldn't send them that. You can do cake in a jar, which is basically exactly what it says...cake, that is baked in a jar. It will keep it fresh. Also, they like to get candies (candy canes), baby wipes, ramen noodles, sunflower seeds, socks, any hygiene products, mens magazines, etc. You can put that little stuff in a stocking. I'd wrap the inside of the box with Christmas wrapping paper. Send as often as you like! A lot of them live off what we send, so they like getting packages! I'd put the letters in the package, it will get there quicker.

Awesome!! Send him some fun stuff.....like a whoopi cushion lol and some card games that he can play with his buds. Hard candy, nuts, unscented body soap, unscented lotion, sunscreen, chap stick with spf, individual packages of kool aide, coffee, drink mixes, etc. Disposable razors maybe, mints, snacks, etc. Then when you send your first letter, you can ask him what he needs!
I am in the process of adopting a soldier too, and I am super excited!
Good luck!

I would say home made cookies but since you don't know him idk if he would eat something home made from a stranger. But candy canes, pre made/packaged christmas cookies. Could send a gingerbread house kit. Get a stocking and fill it with little things. Also, get packets of Gatorade mix that he can mix into bottles of water (they look like the crystal light packets but gatorade)

i have been sending gifts to a friend in afghan. we are civilians, but stationed in afghan.
i try to send a small box every couple of weeks...
the things he has appreciated most were newspapers! socks, sweets and gloves. i also sent him my ipod, with charger and headphones. small wooden puzzle, playing cards, photos.
photos are ace. of anything, not just you. trees with autumnal leaves, police cars, anything you take for granted and look at every day.
hygine things, toothbrush etc. basic painkillers, sticky plasters, vitamins.
sealed packs of biscuts and cakes.
big packs of potato crisps he can share.
soup-in-a-cup sachets.
send him a pack of christmas cards he can give to other people.
be prepared for a delay in your parcels getting to him. it can take about 10 days if they are busy. longer if he is away from a base.
