Try looking through the website for Full Cast Audio- they've got hundreds of stories to choose from, I'm sure you can find something full of wit and "knollegde". It's one of, if not the, best Audio book companies- each character has his or her own VA, plus a narrator, and the casting is superb.

if I may ask, how old are you? I would like to suggest the work of Tamora Pierce, but She writes mainly for Teenagers. Wild Magic is a very good story, and is on Full Cast.

And While it is rather " girly", Shannon Hales " Goose Girl" is a wonderful book, one of the best fairy tale retellings, without being " teh power ov luv! o pRince Chming u saved mi!" at all. the Magic system used is quite fascinating. it's a story that my brother enjoyed as well, and is from full cast.
