Why on earth should women shave their hair off?

My boyfriend says he'd like me to have a 'brazilian' or to wax more. Why? I'm not 'dirty' nor untidy. Why is this practice supposedly acceptable?

Update:

wow - I find some of the answers here quite off putting. It's natural to have hair, it's not unsightly. It's just as feminine to have a bush than not. It is NOT acceptable to shave everything off, nor is it any cleaner!! get a life girls...and boys.

    I am a Brazilian guy.

    I prefer natural girls.

If I was your boyfriend I would say: keep a bush, don't shave everything off.

It is natural in the feminine body. I like it.

Porn is so rampant and easy to access that most men have a misguided and incorrect image in their minds of how women's parts should appear. Nearly all female porn stars are completely shaved and waxed. In many places, it is against publication rules to show the labia thus all women's vuvlas are photoshopped so that there is only one generic appearance. The media has contorted the meaning of a real woman and the appearance of a natural woman's body. Now men think that the women they are with should have what they see in the media/porn and anything outside of that narrow body type is considered abnormal. There is nothing wrong with having hair down there, anyone who tells you otherwise is narrow-minded, shallow, and likely to be a jerk. They are not worth your time, trust me.

Because men want an attractive woman, and youth is the universal beauty. Being "mature" physically is not beautiful for women (no matter what magazines or "mature" women tell you...men don't agree). So, if you want to attract men (or keep your man attracted to you), then you present yourself as young as possible (when you are legal of course). If you don't care about being attractive to men then don't do it. You will probably find someone uglier than you that won't care and will just be happy to be getting some from someone better looking than him...or you won't.

Believe me, when you are 40+, you will wish men would care to see you shaved/waxed...because it will likely be the reverse...cover that thing up, turn out the lights, put some cloths on, etc. So, you go right ahead and dismiss what men want now...when you are past your prime, you'll wish there was something you could do to excite men.

It's a cultural thing. There are many societies around the world where women don't shave. If body hair was manly and unfeminine women wouldn't naturally have it, end of. It's actually modern fashion that has influenced women to shave.

It looks nicer and neater. There's less grooming involved. Plus, bare skin is nice, u get to feel breezes. Oh, and, it's less mess. It may be smoother to the touch as well. Although, that part of a woman's body is probably the most sensitive, so Idk about a wax down there, but it might b worth the pain. I know I hate getting my eyebrows threaded, but when I see the end result, it's worth it.

If you're not comfortable having your hair completely removed (which is what a Brazilian is) why don't you trim it up? If you're not an untamed jungle then no need to worry!

Hair is unsightly on a woman. It makes one look like a man or a beast.
