How can I convince my wife that GSD's are good buy?
I want to get a GSD but my wife is concerned about the liability. We live in a house with 4 acres of land. The house is on the side of the road and there's no fence. Not a lot of cars in the road but people do walk their dogs in the road. My wife's position is that a lot of people overbread the GSD's and they are aggresive or suffer a lot of the knwon diseases that GSD's suffer.
So I guess I have a two fold question? I live in Wisconsin and I want to purchase a good GSD and I also want to meet the pups parents to ensure its from a friendly line. And should I be concerned about the liability?
Please help me as to how I should convince my wife that its a good dog!
Thanks

Any dog, regardless of breed, should be securely contained to its property or on leash when off of its property. No matter what kind of dog you get, figure out how you are going to keep your dog safe from running into the street or being threatened by other animals that are running loose.
Yes, the breed has been tremendously overbred. However, good GSDs with sound temperaments and health are available. You just need to do your homework and buy from a reputable breeder, or consider adopting a dog from rescue. These dogs will likely have had a behavior evaluation so you will be informed of any potential behavior issues in a given dog and decide whether you want it or not. They will also have a physical exam so you can avoid a dog with a problem such as hip dysplasia.

If the dog is not going to be kept in a fenced area then your wife is right, there will be a high liability. GSDs are very good, but they are protective and are a "working" breed so need a job to be happy.

they are one of the most loyal dogs ever. Not only are they great dogs, they are also great family dogs. Every German shepherd i have seen are great loving and sweet dogs. not only do their coat protect them from the cold but from the heat to. Your lifestyle seems perfect for a German shepherd.
Watch this video with your wife, she will change her mind:

PS: consider adoption, there might be German shepherds there too

No reputable breeder is going to sell you a pup with NO fence. End of story!
