A question for Christians?

For all you Christians who believe that prayer works, without giving the old "god works in mysterious ways" response, why would god answer your prayers and not the prayers of so many others who pray to him? Isn't it quite narcicistic to think he wants to help you, but not that poor baby dying of(insert horrible illness here)?

God answers all prayer but the answer wouldn't always been yes. The answer can be no or wait.

Here's what the Bible says about the types of prayers that God answers with a "Yes!".

1 John 5:14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

God isn't going to say "yes" to a prayer that goes against what He wants to happen in His Creation.

Also as a Christian, I believe this passage from the Bible about how God treats ALL people.

Psalms 145:8 The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy. 9 The LORD is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

well God's omnipotent, he can answer more than one prayer at once. and just because he answers one prayer doesn't mean he can't save the poor dying baby. and I believe God wants to help everyone who prays to him. it's not like it's a competition where whoever prays hardest gets what they want, I think it's more of who needs their prayer to be answered the most

The truth is payer does not work, it is something made up by some con to control the weak minded people. Yes I am a Christian and no prayer has never worked for me, I still get hassled by Christians for this but somebody needs to tell the truth and stop pretending it works. The only thing that works for me is if I want fresh meat to eat is get a gun and go kill something to eat, I gave up on praying for something to eat when I was starving. I live in Alaska the same place Sara P says she gets her gun and gets her meat.

Jesus answers all prayers, however all prayers may not be his will to be done. Jesus does hear all prayers. :)

Faith alone in Jesus alone = salvation :)

To be saved all you have to do is believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, and accept him into your life. All saved believers are still sinners but when you believe and accept you are forgiven and allowed into the kingdom of God.

Being good, and works do not save, only Jesus saves.

    Ephesians 2:8-10

    John 3:16

    Romans 4:2-5

Here is a link that helped me with my salvation, hope this helps you as much as this helped me. :)

His word give us a lot of instruction on prayer. Following those instructions, doing what He said to do, gets the results that He promised that it would get.

Those instructions are the keys that unlock the answers.

God wants to help you hypothetical baby. In order for that to happen someone must pray for that baby, according to God's instructions.

God gave stewardship of the world to man. Man rebelled against God, and gave the stewardship over to the devil. Unless you let God know that you want His help, that you want to do things His way, then you are still in rebellion against Him. He does, on occasion, do things for people who are in rebellion against Him, but it is usually a result of one of His people praying.

God has helped a lot of poor dying babies as a result of praying Christians. There is nothing narcissistic about obedience to God.

God having answered prayer isn't narcissism because it's not a reflection on us, it's one on Him - it's HIS goodness, and love.

Above and beyond that, why bad things happen is one of those questions that none of us can answer. I think it's one of those things where we just have to have the humility to accept our limitations to understand. We don't have the capacity to see all of this the way He does, so I just trust that He's merciful, and good, and my not understanding something, or finding something painful doesn't negate who He is.

So what about the Muslims, Jews, Hindus, and the countless other religions FULL of people who sincerely believe that THEIR god answered THEIR prayers?

How do you question someone then turn around and cohorse them how to answer? Anyway. Prayer works by Faith. Hope that helps.

there is mechanism for prayers to be answered:

And when My servants question thee concerning Me, then surely I am nigh. I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he crieth unto Me. So let them hear My call and let them trust in Me, in order that they may be led aright. (186)

all answers get rewarded [if not now:later, if not in this life, in the life-after]

we must trust God's wisdom and His will over us:

And surely We shall try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives and crops; but give glad tidings to the steadfast, (155) Who say, when a misfortune striketh them: Lo! we are Allah's and lo! unto Him we are returning. (156) Such are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly guided. (157)
