Is this virus scan and removal program (it's free) any good and is it compatible with Norton 2012?

Yes AVG is a good security software program but you should never install more than one Internet security software program as each can see the other as threat and cause a system conflict between programs.

If you have Norton 2012 installed you should not need any other security software, open Norton click scan, click full system scan. Norton Internet Security 2012 has a built anti virus and more.

AVG is good but Avast is better and also free--easiest download site is Filehippo.com. Get rid of Norton, do yourself a favor. After 2 months of free Avast I had to pay 20 dollars for 2 years, but worth every penny. I have tried many brands and like Avast best and I use my pc 6 to 8 hours every day. Never use 2 at a time as it will slow down your pc and isn't necessary. Also free at Filehippo.com is 'Malwarebytes' download it and do a scan about every 10 days or so then delete everything it finds if any. Malwarebytes gets rid of spyware which is more prevalent than virus's.

This is probably the most reputable and detailed AV test site, have a look at the Comparatives/Reviews (left) and compare the two. I think you'll find Norton is better (but it's not free). http://www.av-comparatives.org/

Besides the detection rates you also have to consider speed, bloat, etc. Norton is no longer slow and bloated, it's a good AV. AVG is better than it was but suffers from bad updates more than most. Avast is a better bet for a freebie, very few problems with it.
