Some time ago Yahoo had technical problems and accidentally placed a script in the box on the YA pages instead of the flash ads normally displayed. That's when I found out that adyield-manager and bluelithium is used to place personalized ads - both use cookies to track your browsing habits, so you may get a different ad displayed than somebody sitting right next to you. That prompted me to look for solutions since I don't like to get spied upon, and I found several good solutions...
Click tools in your top bar -> click "Internet Options" -> click "Security" tab -> click on "Restricted Sites" -> click "Sites", type in the following two sites:
That should take care of most of those ads.
Other possibilities...
Download and install the latest Firefox browser:

Install "adblock plus":

Result: no more annoying ads! And pages are loading much quicker too...:-)
http://www.admuncher.com/ - this adblocker for the IE (and other browsers) gets highly recommended in several forums.

I for one have the Firefox installed and don't see a single ad on the Yahoo pages...:-) And yes, I don't get any annoying pop-ups from YA either besides the spell checker which apparently can't be stopped...
