Computer locked. Police blocking?
My uncle thinks I have been on 'inappropriate' websites, which I haven't, he thinks this because his computer seems to be locked out, when he opens it he gets a metropalitan police thing saying he needs to pay £100 to recieve internet access again, he believes it to be a virus that has gotten into our homehub, so my question is; can the police actually lock your computer and what would be reasons for them doing so. or is this a rather simple but believeable scam?

It's a virus. If the police wanted to get in touch with you they show up at your door. They don't contact you by computer and do not ask for money - that's bribery and illegal
This scam is the first story on the UK Action Fraud website http://www.actionfraud.org.uk/

"Report a Ransomware Attack
If you have received this message and have acted on it, report the fraud to Action Fraud. This information will be passed to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB). Please note that although the messages claim to be from the Metropolitan Police, computer users anywhere in the UK can receive the demand."

sounds like a scam, you do get viruses from shady websites. you can also get viruses from downloading stuff which is usually free. I would have an expert remove the virus. There are also viruses that pretend to be anti virus software.

Hi there,
Take a deep breath and relax.
REAL Police would come in and seize the computer. They would come in and TAKE the computer away from you.
They are way too busy for this SCAM.

That's a scam. BUT you are in a borderline communist controlling country, so it's probably giving the real cops a good idea!
