Is Richard Dawkins Right....?

when he says that a truly intelligent person cannot be truly religious? I think he is 100% correct, but I want to know how you feel.

Update:

When talking to Penn Jillette, Dawkins was asked what religion he believes stephen colbert is. Dawkins replies by saying Colbert claims to be roman catholic, but that he believes Colbert is too intelligent for that.

I agree 100%. How can an intelligent person believe in the Noah and the Flood story? Or Jonah? Or Balaam's talking donkey?

I think Richard Dawkins is an intelligent man. But, unfortunately, he doesn't have a clue what Christianity is all about. In his book, "The God Delusion," he presents one factual error after another about what the Bible teaches and what Christians believe.

It's quite impressive, in a way, how he can pack so many half-truths, false assumptions, and exegetical errors into a single sentence that it would take several pages to explain why that single sentence is wrong.

His research for the book was so inadequate that ethically it should never have been published.

In one sense, he's correct that no intelligent person should believe in religion, IF by "religion" you mean the lurid and distasteful "straw God" he presents in his book. But real religion? A relationship with the God of the Bible as he really is? Of him, Dawkins remains truly ignorant, and therefore unqualified to voice an opinion.

Edited to condense it down a bit.

I have met a lot of truly intelligent people and, just because they have a high IQ, does not stop them being total idiots. I have met highly intelligent people who are Christians, yet in every other way are sensible.

So, I do not totally agree with Richard Dawkins on this.

  • I've got Asperger's Syndrome.

I have a somewhat high IQ.

I know enough about history and science, and I think I'm smart.

    I am also open-minded.

And I am a devout Muslim, though I am VERY liberal in interpretation.

However, it doesn't matter, I may still be *WRONG WRONG WRONG*.

It doesn't MATTER if atheists are smart, they can still be wrong.

That would be an ad hominem argument.

But yes, it is indeed possible to be highly intelligent and highly religious, though being intelligent doesn't MAKE me right.

Dawkins is a rambling idiot......and changes his tune as often as an out of tune piano ....so he is 100% ignorant on all counts

Curious that such an intelligent person would want to know what we feel rather than what we think.

No Dawkins like most atheists is only feeding his own ego.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

    -----

Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

    ------

Dawkins does not want to be outdone by God.

I'm not sure he actually said that. Source, please?

It is possible for intelligent people to be religious as long as they are careful not to apply their intellect to their beliefs.
