fridge not cooling properly?
I have a Summit no frost refrigerator. It's about 2 years old. I started to notice last night/today that the fridge and possible the freezer is not cooling proper. My stuff that's in the freezer is still frozen. When the fridge turns on, the noise doesn't sound normal, at least it doesn't normal from other times. Lately, I have been hearing a loud popping noises when turn off. I live in a rental apartment. Is there anything I could do before I call management tomorrow? I rather not take apart the back of the fridge if I can't help it.

Sounds to me like the defrost timer has failed and/or the the thermostat that controls the flapper is working intermittently. The popping is the flapper coming unstuck from ice. The flapper door allows the cold from the freezer to the refrigerator compartment, and the thermostat dictates how much.
If the defrost timer does not initiate DF, the ice builds up and net refrigeration is decreased by the frozen coil. If ice holds the flapper almost closed, your milk gets warm but your ice cream is hard as a rock.
For tonight, there's not alot you can do for it, except take everything out of the freezer, set the unit thermostat high as possible, and watch for a big puddle of water to come out from under....
Either way, you gotta let maintenance know whats going on. They may even want to re-clock the timer motor., as that sometimes will "wake up" a fridge.
