Ipod Touch wi-fi fails?

Got an Ipod Touch for my sister, it wouldn't connect to any internet unless wired into a computer.

It failed to connect to anything, but we got it fixed and it can connect so hotspots such as ferry terminals, ect.

Problem: It sort-of connects...being that it now says it is but when an app that requires the internet opens, it says that it is not connected...

Am I required to open a port for the Ipod touch in the router? I've heard it could be a problem with our specific security algorithms, but I'd rather keep my security than sacrifice it for a bloody ipod. :P

hope i can get some clarification of some kind, thanks guys.

Update:

It's been restored and connects to the stores wi-fi

This is a problem I have never faced in my iPod whenever I need the net for an app, but your question shows how crazy your mechanism is in your iPod. I recommend you to first go in for a checkup at the nearest Apple store.

There might also be a problem with the signal of your port, with its broadcasting or you might not have put in the security code for using the net through your iPod.

Ferry terminals always have an open net router with them,so this might not be a solution to your problem.... :)

Does the hotspot work with other devices? sometimes it could be a problem with the router not the ipod.
