Why is there a Union jack on the freaking Saskatchewan Legislative building?
I would just like to know why is there a freaking union jack, British flag flying above this legislative building? why is this? and should it be done, what happened to Canadian patriotism? I have no issues with having this shared queen and heck there's even a statue of her right outside the building but cmon the Union jack is a little bit to much don't you think?

Well since you're in Canada you should probably know that you have a Queen... Who just so happens to be the Queen of England(Elizabeth II) as well. Canada is a Common Wealth nation meaning that while it enjoys political independence from the UK, when it declared it's independence promised to recognize the King or Queen of England as their King or Queen as well. Canada is one of 16 Common Wealth nations all in the same predicament, so the Queen of England is also the Queen of Jamaica and Queen of Canada. That is why there is a UK flag over the Saskatchewan legislative building, because Canada and the UK monarchy are shared so the flag is a recognition of that tie between the two nations.

British Columbia, Manitoba, and Ontario all have the 'Union Jack' on their provincial flag even today. The reason there is so much "British" influence in Canada is because Canada used to be under British rule until Jan 19, 2005. Canada then became free from the influence of British sovereignty and was finally an independent nation.
I could not find any sources to explain why there are still British symbols, statues and buildings in Canada with British influence. At least Canada's flag has nothing British in it.
