Is there a REAL difference between 6 gb and 8 gb RAM?

Or is it pretty much the same thing?

6GB vs 8GB = same thing. A lot of diehard fanboys will tell you to buy 8GB but they are wrong. The research shows, plain and simple, that almost no applications/situations benefit from more than 4GB of ram. I don't know of any games that do, yet you will always see "gaming" pcs with 8GB of ram. It's simply a cheap marketing ploy, people assume more is better (until recently, I did too) and salespeople won't do anything to discourage this notion (even if they know it's false).

Yes, the real difference is 2GB.

I take it you are talking about performance, however. It all depends on what applications you use, how many windows/apps and services you have running. If everything you do will work in 6GB of space without requiring swapping to the hard drive, then 8GB will not provide any benefit.

Open up all the programs you would typically have open simultaneously and then start the task manager. Look at the Performance tab and see how much memory is being used. That will give you a general idea as to whether 2GB more will benefit you.

The only real difference is how much money you are prepared to waste, Windows 7x645 bit only uses 3.8 gigs, and I will bet anything you run a useless free AV, read all about RAM. http://www.filesonic.com/file/2271117374I dont know why people are saying getting more than 4gb is good. If any one can name me a game which will take your total ram use above about 3gb i will eat my computer.

Even Crysis + a dvd + the internet running doesnt take my PCs ram usage above 3gb. (try running games and pressing ctrl alt del and going to the performance tab. See how much ram is actually being used by games, you will be surprised)

4gb is a good amount as it is more than you need but ram comes in 1gb or 2gb sticks and most computers have 2 or 4 ram slots so it adds up nicely.

Also look very carefully at what graphics card you are buying, about 80% of a games performance is dependant on the graphics card in my opinion.

Do you know what the RAM actually does? It stands for Random Access Memory, and it's temporary high-speed storage space for programs that are currently running. Having 8GB vs. 128GB will make no difference in performance, until you reach the point where the former is being completely used up. I have gone over 4GB of usage many times, and high amounts of RAM are extremely useful for people rendering 3D scenes/videos. The average person won't need more than 6GB, but for more hardcore users, it's always nice to have extra space, in case they need it.

Huge if you get 6 GB of ram then it will not run games as fast but still really good I have 3 GB and runs smoothly

  • in 2014 8gb of ram is important in games such as Watch Dogs with a minimum requirement of 6gb of ram and recommended 8gb

During games, if you have a fast enough processor, it will probably make the difference of about 10-15 frames per second. Hope this helps!

its pretty much the same thing, you won't feel any difference performance wise
