I'll tell you what I just did this morning. I had a sirloin steak in the freezer that was kind of old and I knew we would never eat it. I let it semi-defrost, sliced it into 1/4 inch strips against the grain, cut each one of those strips in half, and put the strips on a rack on a cookie sheet. I baked them at 200 degrees for about 4 hours, and now a have a BUNCH of REAL beef jerky treats. Honestly, this is the first time I even tried this as I do NOT usually do any *special* treats for my dogs.

Got any meat in your freezer that you don't plan on eating? You can do this with ANY meat as long as it is cut in THIN strips.

I have one that is very easy: 1 cup flour 1/2 cup peanut butter (I get the kind with no sugar or preservatives, only peanuts) 1/2 cup milk Mix it all together, roll it out and cut cookies out (or you could just shape it into little lumps). Cook for 8-10 minutes @ 350 degrees (more for crunchy, less for soft). I've also altered it and used 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup oatmeal and a can of sardines instead of peanut butter. They are stinky treats but my dog *loves* them! In the summer I like to mix plain, unsweetened yogurt, peanut butter, and a banana or strawberries together and freeze it in little cups or in his kong- frosty paws!!! Yum!

I don't do any special foods for my dog. He likes everything but Happy Birthday to your pup.
