Is it just me or does the occupy wall street movement go against the American Dream?
We are a country built on the fact that if you work hard, bust your tail that you CAN make it(not that you WILL). So doesn't the anit-1% movement contradict that and moreover attempt to move this country further into the everyone gets a trophy type of mind set?
Ok but that doesn't really answer the question, just adding some opinions and one fact...if people make their money, who's right is it to say that they should just level the playing field? I am in the Army and am by no means rich, but it really just sounds like a bunch of new gen people who want the world to be given to them, but the fact remains that the average person is just that, average, not brilliant, not savvy, why the entitlement?
"american dream? the dogma that having a chance at getting filthy stinking rich at the expense of the (working) poor is a good thing? You bet OWS is against that. If there's food enough, why let people starve? If there's enough houses, why make people homeless? If there's 20 hours a week of work for everyone, why have millions jobless and other millions work 60 hours or more?
The answer to those why's is : because money is worshipped, and because creating money (credit) is left to commercial institutions (banks) that demand back every cent, with interest.
AD:why the entitlement? Because we're human. OWS doesn't ask privileges or trophys for itself. They ask the very privileged to be a little less selfish."
So what you're saying is we turn to communism? Because if there's enough money for everyone and they want other to stop being selfish, surely sounds like communism to me. Work your a$$ off to feed and support your family, quit *****ing th

Look, when America has reached the point where just 6 people have has much wealth as the poorest 100,000,000 Americans (yes, this is a fact), something is terribly wrong. I think it's time to start asking questions why.
Yes, America is supposed to a place where anybody can become prosperous if they work at it, but in fact there's a such a thing as a rigged system. Money begets power which in turn begets money. The rich get richer and the poorer get poorer. This all too happens throughout history, whether or not "communists" are running things.
Didn't it ever occur to you that the rich and the powerful use the "hey, don't try to dampen free enterprise!" argument to cover up what they are doing behind your backs? And that they'll convince you to love them for their "success" while you stay broke?
Edit: The OWS movement is not about promoting entitlement programs. This is not the liberalism of the 1960s warmed over. This is something entirely different. What they are calling for is a warmed over Teddy Roosevelt, who foresaw the dangers of runaway capitalism in the late 1800s. And did something about it. Today, his face is up on Mt Rushmore for good reason.

It's you.
And the movement as I see it doesn't go against the American Dream.
Actually there are so many different opinions within the movement that even they don't know what they want in most cases. There are a few points (facts) that they agree on and that's that the foreclosures are putting people out of their tents and to the streets, and that an education is costly, it's required, but there are very few jobs out there to accommodate all of those who today are graduating, and when it's that costly and no jobs that means they will be 100 years old and still paying their student loans because of the way the laws are presently. I see no contradiction in any of those things.
Because of the mortgage fiasco there is no American Dream anymore for a lot of people, and the occupiers know that and want the American Dream back.

No, the occupy wall street thing isn't about stealing trophies or making it so everyone wins big. It's about making sure the adventures of capitalism doesn't rip apart the nations people between who has better access to things you need to live and who's going to be in destitution. It's about making the playing field level again for fairness purposes.
The "Go big or go home" mentality really sucks for a bunch of americans because we are home! It ignores the fact that quite a few people probably will be happy enough raising a family, exploring life, growing old with a loved one, and not playing the stupid monopoly game.

Investor Bankers vote Democrat. Wall street supplies a ideas more suitable to the Democratic get jointly than the Republican get jointly. Germany's Investor Bankers LOED Adolph Hitler. They positioned him in skill. the reason being basically. NAZIs/Democrats count number on authorities administration over company and the commercial gadget. this suggests the funding judgements are simmply. Obama president COAL is undesirable. Obama president image voltaic is sturdy. It do not remember if image voltaic can't make money. Obama received't enable the marketplace fail. The banks comprehend the position to positioned their money. there is no longer something loose marketplace about the Wall street funding Banker.

I agree that life is NOT about entitlements.
Its about earning the money yourself, by your own hard work.
There is a mentality in the world, especially in youth, that they are entitled to something. Its the wrong perception to have.
Many an immigrant, who has been through world wars. Travelled overseas to a country, to make it on their own . Worked hard their whole life, for their family.
Expecting entitlements was not something which existed back then.

I can see what you're talking about. I actually have thought of that recently. Those protestors should be focusing on a certain group or person, not just Wall Street in general. A lot of people in Wall Street busted their *** and worked hard to get to that position in life, and for their hard effort they get a bunch of protestors saying, "YOU DON'T DESERVE ALL THAT MONEY."
It's a shame, really.
