Is anyone else pissed off at people who replace Merry Christmas with Happy Holidays?

Seriously, it's the celebration of Christ's birthday, why would people with other religions or none at all get offended at hearing that? If a Jew came up to me and said Happy Hannukah I wouldn't be offended. If I was told Merry Quanza I wouldn't be offended. I am religiously tolerant, why can't others be tolerant of my religion? Why must it be Christianity that must always suffer this ignorance and intolerance?

(please no rude or intolerant answers)

Have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year

Personally, it doesn't annoy me. It seems like a pretty pointless thing to get p!ssed off about, if you ask me :')

Although, I do get where you're coming from. People are just trying to be PC; they have the best intentions, but sometimes, I don't think they should even bother. Trying make everything overly PC just ends up annoying people, and making things worse half the time. I don't think many people are actually offended by the word "Christmas", and those who are just need to grow up. I'm not religious, but I still celebrate Christmas. Lots of non-religious people/people of a different religion celebrate Christmas, it HAS come to mean more than the celebration of the birth of Christ to A LOT of people.

And, I'm afraid I disagree with you about Christianity "always suffering this ignorance and intolerance". All religions (and atheism, too) suffers intolerance and ignorance. In fact, every type of person suffers some form of it, it's not just about religion (sexism, for example? Racism? Homophobia? etc.).

Just ignore people who change it, if it annoys you. But don't get angry, what's the point in that? Save your anger for actual injustices in the world, you know? ;)

Yes, it makes me mad too. This is America and our country is based on Christianity. This is a christian country and christians celebrate Christmas.

Too bad if it offends someone. If I went to the Middle East I would not expect them to cater to my religion so why should we do that for others in our country?

In fact the muslims and jews that I know are not offended by Christmas. They wish me a Merry Christmas. My youngest daughter has a friend who is muslim and she bought my daughter a Christmas present. In my opinion this is respect for us and our religion.

Those few isolated people who throw fits over "Christmas" have caused this issue. We should not allow it as it is America. I am very tolerant of other religions, but I don't want to drive around and see "Happy Holidays" everywhere. Signs should say "Merry Christmas".

"Happy holidays" is stupid. You could say that all year round cause holidays are ALL THROUGH THE YEAR. December 25 is the recognized birthday of Jesus so Merry Christmas is a direct reference to that. Which is why those of us that do believe choose to say those exact words.

You also have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Because its also a time of other religions celebrations as well and its also a time of pagan and non religious celebrations. Its also time for solstice.

So saying happy holidays is inclusive to everyone, not just of you.

Would it kill you to be tolerant? Or accepting of different beliefs and celebrations? You are not being persecuted, if you want to say happy christmas then go for it, but if someone else wants to say happy holidays, then take it in the spirit it was given.

I completely agree, although what upsets me most is that my schools don't ALLOW teachers to say merry christmas, and take down all decorations (like mini 1ft christmas trees) that they see in order to not offend anyone. They promote religious tolderance in schools, then act as if they are not tolerant of my religion. So to be honest, I'm not as upset as you about happy holidays, as many people use it to refer to the holiday season as a whole, but I completely agree with the premise. I am tolerant of other's religions, why not be tolerant of mine?

well its cuz some ppl are jewish and get offended for saying Merry Christmas rather than Happy Holidays, lol

Well, I don't really mind "happy holidays" because it covers Thanksgiving, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and New Years. However I got a couple of cards that said "happy holidays" rather than merry Christmas.... and I thought that was really stupid. Why not say CHRISTMAS on CHRISTMAS cards?!

Because Christmas isn't the only winter holiday, mang, and it's not cool or appropriate to assume that everyone who celebrates a winter holiday is a Christian.
